hi ive just been reading the proposed new breed standards,for the parson russell ,for the kennell club

Characteristics

current standard>>>>>lEssentially a working terrier with ability and conformation to go to ground and run with hounds.

 

proposed change<>>>>>>Essentially a working terrier, a confident, energetic and happy dog that historically had the ability and conformation to go to ground and the stamina to run with hounds, if needed. This breed should be happy and never shy.

 

reason for change??????The breed has not run with hounds for a very long time – if ever. Going to ground is now a contentious subject.

They will probably bugger up the breed just like they usually do ,having a "standard " only caters to the whims of the so called judges

To be honest, 1, are you surprised? and 2,anyone who WORKS russells shouldn't give a shit anyway.I keep lakelands/fells/patterdales whatever you want to call them and have no interest whatsoever in their breed standard so why is it such a big deal with many russell owners?

Who actually has any that work MOST keepers of them things are only interested in the conformation

can only speak about mine, its a russell not a parsons, came without papers and dunno what the breed standard is? dont care, mine is game as anything which is all am arsed about dont care about papers..

i had a very good parsons russell that saw lots of work and died to ground the russells i have now have done a bit but next season should see although i think he will make the grade hes very keen

Are you just talking about Parson Russells or ALL Russells, because if you are I think you'll find that there a good number of working Russells, or Russell TYPES if you want to be picky about the terminolgy.

I'd bet there are more working russell types than any other. And I mean earth work.

Don,t worry what some arse of a breeder say,s, you know yourselve,s whats needed .People who exaggerate weak point,s of a dog ie Bulldog,s face arn.t worth the air they breathe. My russel,s do the job as well as any terrier I,ve used and have won the odd show, what more do I need!
