Meerihunter 7
The "Kizzy" stuff is very fast but , especially in the last few generations , can be lacking in outright "strength".Were as, the desert stuff tends to be a bit steadier but are very, very strong. I'd totally agree with that. My first Saluki fudge out of The "Kizzy" stuff Cruise of ShildonXDelightful Lady was ideal in my eyes, speed, stamina and strength. My Ameerah current bitch is very fast firey as hell (I like them like this it can be a liabilty at times though) and can stay forever but I'm not filled with the same confidence Fudge gave me regarding strength although touch wood she has be ok so far. My Saluki dog Tariq is very very strong, fast enough and can stay well enough. He's a wee sappy/woosy at times but he was a rescue so very little about him, he is possibly down from Deacon lines or other show stuff he is certainly not kizzy stuff he does'nt have that go about him. My pup out from an accidental coupling of Ameerah to Tariq is very fast and can stay and really firey when roused like his mother. The Americans I've conversed with tell me the English coursing lines of Saluki's are generally the fastest. A Saudi told me his good Salukis when on a strong Gazelle often run 8km+ at 60kph (37mph). The Kurdishs do as, Miles says seem to be beaten all other type just now. There alot of Kurdish imported to germany I plan on bringing in my next Saluki probably from the US or maybe germany, second generation COO bred hopefully using the Pet Passport Scheme to avoid Quarantine. shaddow 166
Meerilhunter one prob with importing a puppy is that they be 9 or 10 months old before you get it back unless you buy an older dog/bitch to breed from ? not many folk would sell a pup for a few hundred quid then keep it till 9 months old for you Quote Link to post

I were to bring a dog in from Kazakhstan I would be looking at the best part of £3000 for flights, paperwork, quarantine etc. Quarantine laws are totally over the top, saying apparently in Ireland you can now quarantine your animal at your home if you follow goverment guidelines. Meerihunter 7
It is a lot of money but like you say if you some stud fee's in plus good pups its not so back especially if you were do as part of a group folk everyones in the same boat RE Saluki's so maybe it would getting your heads together. I wouldn't grumble £1500-£2000 if was getting a good hunting holiday out of it as well. The other thing to maybe think about would artificial insemination and importing semen, again you need good contacts and vets fees would take the costs up. Quote Link to post
miles 227
Here's a better picture of Vances "Ash". Bred out of the "tepe Gawra" desert bred stuff via Farra, back to the Kizzy stuff via "Vances Girl" Litter sister to Lennons "Star", Willie Toughs, "Sonny", Alan Booths "Fred" , Hansons "cruise" ect....... all good animals and good producers. Vances were only run privately and with the saluki C.C, Tony's won the Temple Brewer and got to the Forley twice running up once, against top match bred stuff. Sankey also used Ash over Dancer to get some outstanding longdogs. Quote Link to post

Annie 0
Shaddow have you considered taking your bitch to as desert bred dog to be lined over in europe using the pet passport system, its an option I'm looking into as an alternative to importing. There's a young dog around who is from Khans litter brother that is working, not sure if he would be available at stud but I could find out if you're interested. Miles, great looking dog. bolio 51
just say i had a pure saluki bitch to breed from and i wanted to use an imported dog ....is there any imported dogs in the UK or are there any other working salukis here other than Khan Jihad and Toby respectivley cheers recently saw a picture of an imported saluki in cmw ,black and white dog ,certainly looked the part ,however they do use stock photos so it could be taken a while ago, give them a ring they are pretty helpful ive found :trader If that's the same picture I'm thinking of trader, it was miscaptioned as the shot was actually of John Lennon and his Star bitch. He and I had a laugh at the claim that it was an imported saluki. Who on earth dreams up these captions? That bitch took 7 out of 7 one day and was witnessed by independent observers. I saw her pluck a flying partridge out of the air on another occasion. Stars grandchildren are still running around these British Isles and retrieving well Quote Link to post
