miles 227
just say i had a pure saluki bitch to breed from and i wanted to use an imported dog ....is there any imported dogs in the UK or are there any other working salukis here other than Khan Jihad and Toby respectively cheers Firstly, Toby is not a pure bred , doesn't detract from the dog in any way , but if its pures your after Khan has desert blood in him, from his sire is out of "Farha tepe gawra", son of the legendary "Durak". John Lennons stuff is all Kizzy and Pharo stuff and heavily inbred,so your right to go for a desert type out-cross. When Vance used Farha over his bitch (smooth desert bred to kizzy stuff, which is what your looking to do), the litter was outstanding. One of the bitches was runner up in the Forley.......... and Vances bitch was better. The "Kizzy" stuff is very fast but , especially in the last few generations , can be lacking in outright "strength". Were as, the desert stuff tends to be a bit steadier but are very, very strong. Getting access to a dog off the "desert line" That's the hard part Quote Link to post

Getting access to a dog off the "desert line" That's the hard part well i think shes due to break down in august so it gives me a little bit of time to look for the right dog , id rather pay a bit more stud fee for a right dog than just use any old saluki dog what about Vances 'ASH' is he still around ? well miles your well up on the salukis so your opinion is always appreciated Quote Link to post

Getting access to a dog off the "desert line" That's the hard part A friend of mine ran a pure bred Saluki in the Forley two years running,99 and 2000 ,I think, it ran very well in the first year but the bitch wasnt right the second time,it was quite a fast bitch for a pure bred, and ,very good in cover,it was Vance 's line I beleive.Miles do you think the fact that coursing is illegal in Saudi has been detrimental to the working strains,? Or hasnt that had time to have an impact on them yet? Quote Link to post
miles 227
The bitch was Tony Griffish,s "shady" and was litter sister to "ash" and "Abbey" of Vances, bred out of his Kizzy/ pharo bitch to Farha, she won the Temple Brewer the week before she ran up in the forley in 99. Don't know if Ash is still going Shaddow, if he is he'll be at least 14. Don't think the ban has affected the saudi saluki much Inan, the royals and their hanger on, course all over the middle east and africa (for ths gazzel), got a great dvd of them running gazzel single handed off Paul S. There running there own stuff and feathered Kurdish bred dogs. I don't think the nomadic tribes out in the desert take much notice of bans The cream and the black fringed red to the right of the picture are "Abbey" and "Ash" Quote Link to post

I wont say his name here. That would be the way to go I think importing from abroad.I saw one of John Lennons run when out with the Calendar Club once ,he said it wasnt really fit, seemed a nice chap. miles 227
Dont know of the Shap dog, some in the Lakes a few miles from shack No, Paul was asked to slip in the Forley.................. but didn't Tony took the bitch out on the WEDNESDAY , ran her hard, and the Forley was on the Fri, should have been lightly exercised the week before IMO. Tony used to run twice a week ,Wednesdays and Saturdays,I didnt know the bitch was out the Wed prior to the Forley ,that does seem excessive to me,with a big competition coming up,he had another very good dog a saluki cross ,but ran Shady as he thought the big fields suited her better.Good Bloke.
