Drop boxes are the way forward along motorways. your sure right about the gas it wont be long before it is banned on the motorways. as there is to many none target species getting caught up in this programe. what alot of people dont relise the amount of work that the highways agency and the firms that run the highways agency is the amount of people that are involved in the rabbit control and thats before the lads get on the ground to do the work. but it carnt be bad for the lads that get paid to undertake this work Quote Link to post
Meriln2008 0
why not shoot them on the oppisite side of the banking Fine as long as you've got your backstops sorted. I'DLook more to Livetrapping other side of fenceline, otherwise I'd walk away from this one. Sounds like a lot of possible grief. >>>>> Edited April 6, 2009 by Meriln2008 Quote Link to post
Quixote 9
Drop boxes are the way forward along motorways. Yep, I'd agree with that! You'll need to spend some time counting rabbit numbers though..................you'll need about half as many traps as there are buns. Prebait them with chopped carrot or the like (keep your bait sizes & portions similar between traps & this will let you monitor bait takes) Place the traps a good 10 paces apart & check twice daily. Don't cover them, but you can paint them green to make them less conspicuous. It's unlikely you'll get many people interfering with them in the location you mention, but you can download & print off a wee poster that lets people know the traps are legal...................... www.caip-uk.info/_Attachments/Resources/9_S4.pdf The traps themselves are about £22 each, or you can make them using 50mm weldmesh. Wee bit dear to begin with, but they'll soon pay for themselves on a big job. Especially council! Edited April 9, 2009 by Quixote Quote Link to post

I think you'll find 'drop boxes' are a bit more expensive than that. Commercially made galv steel are about £75,you can make your own for about £20.And they don't need baiting. (curtesy of another post) Plus digging one in every 10 paces???,Hope you got a JCB. I'm guessing youre thinking of box/cage traps. Or simular There is a well respected guy on here ( JB ) who has produced a book of plans for various traps, which is receiving much accliam,And I myself will be buying a copy on payday(later this month). >>>>> Edited April 9, 2009 by Meriln2008 Quote Link to post
Quixote 9
you have got your wires crossed mate, the man means DROP BOX not cage trap, Yep! My bad, sorry. Guess I better be more careful before I post in future, huh? Anyway, Why would anyone want to 'dig in' a cage trap? Quote Link to post
