Pignut 4
My lurcher is a peaceful castrated male dog of 11 years old. My terrier is a world-dominating little spayed bitch of 2 years old. From day 1, my terrier as a pup (and still does this) sits on my lurcher when he is lying down. She sort of parks herself on him! We have another Patt terrier (male castrated) and she wouldn't dare do it to him. She also sits on your feet - just places her back legs either side of your hanging foot and sits there! Is this normal behaviour? She is not aggressive to anyone. Is it dominant behaviour or just weird terrier stuff? It just seems abit strange and not something I have ever seen before! Thanks Pignut
BlueCoyote 0
i would say its normal for her. some dogs are clingy, which i suppose could be mistaken for dominance...... i had a dobermanXshepherd/collie that was my shadow. if i stopped and stood still long enough he would lean against me with all his weight. if i sat down on the ground (crosslegged) then he would climb into my lap and curl up (all 70lbs of him) or park his rear end in my lap with his front paws on the ground. and if i was out of town for the weekend he was a complete nervous wreck and a terror to my moms garden until i came home. there wasnt a mean bone in his body. very easy going. the only time he growled at anyone was when the neighbour snuck up on me - radio was too loud - i think the dog scared him a little because he stopped dead in his tracks and didnt dare move. scared him mostly because the dog was so placid and friendly to all. so... i wouldnt say dominant so much as maybe a tiny bit insecure and feels a need for that puppy-pile experience.. you know where a litter of pups will all climb on top of one another to sleep? Pignut 4
Thanks, guys. I hadn't thought of the puppy pile angle at all. Makes sense - she can be clingy and have that terrier insecurity and separation anxiety at times. Cheers Pignut

Thanks Pignut what amazes me is lurchers seem to be able to squeeze into the smallest of beds , i remember coming back from a trip out & finding my lurcher curled up in a tiny cat bed
