councils and chickens

Recommended Posts

can the local council stop you from having any chickens on your own back garden,or are councils different. i would really love 3 or 4

i dont think they can stop you,but i would definitely check first with your own council.

also id recommend having a word with your neighbours but they normally dont mind once you give them a few eggs.

as long as you keep their housing clean(because they can stink)you shouldnt have any problems and remember to keep an eye out for rats ,because chicken feed is like a magnet to them so dont leave any food out at night :nono: apart from that go for it youll love them

most local councils are now stoppiung people keeping chickens in their back gardens but a lot depends on how well you get on with your naibours.

if noone complains most will leave you alone but if they recieve a complaint will take action.

Theres been some trouble over this where i live just recently, the folk that went whinging to the council about the noise were told nothing could be done owing to it not being constant. However it all got sorted when a fox paid them a visit killing the cockeral & the six hens.

Where I come from no chickens, pidgeons, any aviary of any sort and even in some of the local authorities housing you can't even keep a dog or cat as it is part of the tenancy agreement, and if you sneak a dog or cat in and get grassed up you can be evicted on the grounds of breach of tenancy.

Guest dog on

you have rights to cover 3 quaters of your garden with a aviary if it does not state that you canot keep certain animals or birds in the agreement of tenancy and it is a certain distance from your back or front door and you inform the council .
