stoat trapping live

Recommended Posts

i dont know why you would want it a live :hmm: but flesh bait will work fine, the cage will need to be quite fine mesh, I find trapping stoats best if you place in a natural road way (hedge or A stone wall). a trap set in a good pile of rocks always works well as stoats especially young one when they start to come out love to explore piles of rocks.

good luck

The best live catch stoat and weasel traps are the wooden seesaw traps, they work a treat.

But if your trapping it in a cage trap 'coz thats all you have then I would say, try fresh rabbit/game or eggs as bait. If it wont go in, get a fenn mk4, or the type stated above.

Just my opinions, hope they help

Just to add a bit more - Matt the Rat asked me to make him one some time ago and I have been dragging my feet a bit. Anyway today I decided to kill two birds with one stone and I worked through my own plans and made him this. I'm glad I did too - only a couple of errors but big enough to be a pain in the arse.

john that a smart trap you built did it take long to knock together

About 2 to 3 hours I think working from scratch, but it's had to tell as I kept getting interrupted. Glad you like it because it's one of the plans in the book. Just making sure I've written it all down properly before I publish.

Another shot of the construction process

"why would you want to live trap a stoat?" So that you could relocate it in an area where it is not necessarily a pest. Stoats aren't always vermin but wildlife in the wrong place. I don't have a problem with those who spring trap them but personally I would consider the cage trap and release option.
