Guest BIG FRANK

just sat hear with the bro discussing what age to enter my pup at on certain quarry..

and then we was wondering is it the breed which determines the age to be entered

or what about the bigger stuff is there something you will notice in the dog or is it the age and you ween them to it??

is there any story's or mistakes made by your selfs or others on this subject(entering to early)ect..

love to read your opinions the more the merrier. :victory:

im currently running a pup on at the moment and im trying my best to wait till shes tweive months she nine months at the moment so hopefuly in july august ill give her a go on some young quarry see how she goes ill be useing her mainly on the lamp. ive in the past been guilty off expecting to much from young dogs so im going to see if this method suits me better. she does seem ready for work lately though she seems to be restless but herself dose not know why fingers crossed this waiting wil work for the better and i wont miss the boat with her

i always take my pups bushing first to watch start to scent and watch the big dogs depends onb the breed i would say about a eight months to a year for bushing

ive know courseing dog ruined being ran to early they might jack or become yelpers so depends on breed and game

start easy take your time you cant rush a good dog takes time some of my best came into it a bit later in life about 2 had a good bitch at 21/2before first time she was run

so between a 12 to 18 months should be fine

its easy to break a dogs spirit its hard to build confidence age experience helps bigtime

Depends, dogs are generally slower to mature than bitches................ but not always..............and what thier chasing! :boogy:

Eight months is about the right age for a bitch for a first introduction to a rabbit or two, this bitch was running single handed from nine months, only the odd slip at first, but more as she matured up.

Like people, dogs are individuals, and mature at different rates. Its about weighing up your pup and deciding if its ready for the next stage or needs holding back ;)

In my experience the real "good, uns" show it at an early age

i started my lurchers of at 5 to 7 month old on droppers then git them out on the lamp from then on for some proper rabbit's and at about 12 month give them some big rabbit's on the lamp and that has alway's work'ed for me and ive got one bitch that's 8 years old now and she is still going and my other bitch is out of her and she is just over 2 years old now and ive just got a pure sulki it's 14 month's old and he's not as easy to git runing but that mite be the bred

bigger quarry : - if you slip a learner with experienced, chances are, he will stand back and watch. I did this with my first dog. I slipped him again with experinced dog, and he got stuck in, third time, he took a big buck single handed, by the throat.

another dog, i "just slipped" her and she learned how to deal with it on her own :D
