Hi,

I have decided to buy my son a bsa lightning xl he likes the tactical stock a local gun shop will do the gun a set of nikkosterling 3-9x40 gunslip sling and pellets combo sort of deal for £350

 

Your opinions/advise please

Sounds perfectly good to me. My own straight XL put my back about four ton, time I'd taken the basic rifle off the wall, scoped it, cased it, loaded it and lasered it. 'Surprising' how it all adds up!

 

If I were ever to get another air rifle, I know for sure I'd simply buy another Lightening.

I had a look at them in the Gunshop in Haverfodwest, after a few lads on here were on about them. I'd already made up my mind to go back to a springer for my next gun, (whenever that may be) but when I saw them in the flesh, I knew what model I wanted. I liked the look of the tactical, it was on the rack next to a Scorpion, they both looked stunning.

I think that the XL and the Tactical XL are bothe excellent guns. I've a great deal of success with my XL. Your boy is going to be really happy.

XL Tactical a cracking piece of kit your son will be well pleased and it won't let you down a great choice, let us know how he gets on with it.

I wanted my sons to buy their own first gun so that they would appreciate and look after them we bought two Xl Tacticals and they are A1, Some have a slight problem with a grub screw under front swivel attachment it holds the silencer in place but your gunsmith can put it right with a blob of threadlock .... NOT SUPERGLUE.

Thanks for the positive feedback. The superstar was the gun of the day when I was younger been out of touch for the last 10years but I know bsa is a safe bet. I don`t like the tactical stock personally but time move on I guess. His birthday is on the 1st of may I got a day of work and he's having a day off school. Can`t wait I`ll have him fitting and zeroing the scopes himself and hopefully after a couple of tins of pellets a 3" grouping at 30yds. It will provide food for the ferrets and kits (first litter) during the summer. I have enjoyed getting the kids started more so than when I started myself.

With a Lightening?! Forgive me for saying so, but if ye can't manage a bloody site better than That, ye really should practice shooting more. The Lightening itself can put them much tighter than that. As long as you can point it there.

sort the trigger out on it. i had a lighting and the trigger was very heavy and that made the rifles grouping abit poor

as i didnt no when it was going to pull. i think the xl as a 2 stage on it if im not wrong mate.

 

adjust it abit so you have less pull and then your no when its going to break that will improve your groups no end that and keep praticing

Excellent point, Jamie! Now ye mention it; One of the first things I did with my own XL was frown in consternation at the trigger. Unwind the grub screw till it was just hanging in there. And went on to stitch lines across bulls. I had to shoot horizontally or else I'd just keep hitting the same hole and wouldn't have known for sure where the damn pellet had gone!
