LOGUNSOLO177 0
I wouldnt personaly but it is a cool solution! Quote Link to post
Geoff.C 0
The mini-maglights would not have enough beam. I would think however, that the smallest "D" battery version the 2xD cell would give plenty of beam for air gun ranges and not be too heavy. Quote Link to post
SEAN3513 7
different...i must say....looks a bit quirky..... i agree with GEOFF C probably not enough beam?? was shooting once and a bloke had a remote control head torch......he kept the remote taped onto his stock it beamed about 40-50m......better than butchering your stock!!! think it was a PETZL head torch...........bloody useful tho!!! used to sell them at GREYS OF ALNWICK ( FISHING SHOP) havn't seen them for while tho! woodchip 2
I THINK THERE ABOUT £100 AND FOR THAT MONEY THERE ARE MUCH BETTER LIGHTS ON THE MARKET Quote Link to post
Tyla 3,179
The maglite thing has been done before, not a bad solution if you get caught out with a blown bulb or whatever but otherwise why not just buy something made for the job? You can use a maglite for lamping but would i, no way - i would use a lamp, they were designed for the job and they are good at at it. i certainly wouldnt claim to have invented a new system! People have been gluing/screwing/clamping torches to guns ever since they were invented, you could even use a gunmounted one - they are called lamps and have been readily available for years!!! They have enough battery life, the right king of beam, and a gun mounting system Quote Link to post
SEAN3513 7
well said......dont fix what aint broke Quote Link to post
moxy 617
The maglite idea is ok but i think the guy needs to have a re-think about his pro's and cons They require a large battery pack They all have trailing wires On / off switch has to be glued to stock If the lamp is on the scope it's easy to "knock" the sight requiring calibration (not easy at night!) Can make the rifle top-heavy Very cumbersome to use and carry I have a maglite that takes 5 D batts it weighs a ton, I know this isnt a practical torch for this situation but you are going to add more weight to you gun, Why when you can carry it in your pocket or backpack. Yes there is trailing wires but i have very rarely had a problem with my wires snagging, Wheres this guy lamping? In a jungle?!! The switch doesent have to be glued to the stock. You can be creative with cable ties and the velcro patches work very well. I have never knocked my lamp causing my scope to be in need of re-calibration!! Wht has this guy been doing with his scope mounted lamps in the past? Clubing the bunnies over the head. My lamp weighs less than a maglite (other than a penlite type) and it certainly doesent make my rifle top heavy. Would attatching a torch to the underside of your gun make it bottom heavy?? Very cumbersome to use and carry!!!!!!! Well what can i say to that!?!?! Im not nocking the maglite idea in certain situations it will in no doubt have its merrits But i dont think that guy promoting his maglite mounting system is fit to hold a water pistol never mind a loaded gun,be it day or night!! They are my thoughts anyhoo Quote Link to post
mark01856 7
thanks for your replys, i never thought it sounded that good, and as moxy says ive not had any problems with wire snagging Quote Link to post
commando 0
Hi I used to use a Mag light years ago, but found them to heavy and the batteries soon died !! I now use a Surefire 6P The beam is really bright, it runs off 2 x camera batteries, which are expensive but the weight is nothing and they will last for ages and ages. I have it set up with a presel switch, the lead is short and doesn't get in the way. I haven't got any photos, but if anyone is interested then just let me know. Safe shooting.
