Takes way to long for me... Wastes far to much meat on the back legs.

  • Chop of all 4 feet and the head with a hand axe, takes less than 10 seconds.
  • Work your hand inbetween the skin and flesh so your hand is right through over the saddle and out the other side.
  • Chop through the loose skin over saddle.
  • Pull skin apart.

Thats the method I use and so long as you cut the right amount of feet of it it is very quick. If you dont cut enought of the feet of it will leave little socks on the rabbit which make it take longer.

Would be quite good have have a rabbit skinning comp next season? make videos and compare techniques..

For the dogs and ferrets I dont even chop off the feet, I used to but if I left the feet on the floor two of my bitches would eat them.

So its out with the guts and thats about it. I quite often divy them up with an axe or machette. yc

Quicker still if you pinch the skin over the saddle, cut with sharp knife and then pull apart... :victory:

Will have to try that Mike, cheers

Everyone has there own methods, its easier to gut rabbits out in the field as mentioned, then when home just seperate the back pelt as mike commented and pull apart to skin...

To be honest I don't bother skinning they just get gutted and stored inthe chest freezer for ferrets/dogs, if I go out to make a day or night of it, then there gutted and taken to the dealer...

  • 4 weeks later...

Paunch em in the field saves carrying home the extra weight!

As for the 'offal' my great aunt would have killed me if I chucked it away, makes the gravy!!!

Or she would have eaten it herself.

Grandad always ate the brains as well!!
