right chaps, a good mate of mine who's a keeper went to watch a demonstration of this tool yesterday.

unfortunatly i wasn't there , but my mate is straight up and wont bullshit. there wrere a hancfull of other people also watching this demo as well. keepers and farmers .

any way up to the first rabbit warren , loads of gas pumped under ground for a few mins , then light it BANG. then straight after the fella doing the demo starts filling in the entrance holes :o

my mate says what you doing that for. the demo man replies to stop anything comming out. my mate says ," but i thought it collapes all the tunnels. demo man replys , depends on the ground how hard it is or how old the warren is.

my mate is not impressed.

any way this carries on through out the demo , same thing not one single burrow collapses.

now the best bit , or should i say the WORST BIT.

AT ONE OF THE WARRENS LIVE RATS WERE COMMING OUT , MY MATE SAW A COUPLE OF RATS . AND WORST OF ALL WAS A FOX THAT CAME OUT , DEMO MAN SHOUTS QUIK HIT IT OVER THE HEAD WITH THE SHOVAL. MY MATE SAID " YOU WILL HAVE JOB ITS 2 FIELDS A WAY.

HE ALSO SAID THAT THE RATS WOULD PROBABLY DIE LATER, MY MATE THINKS OTHERWISE , AS THEY MADE THERE GETWAY ALONG THE HEDGE.

all in all my mate was not impressed , niether were any of the other potential customers that were there . infact no one bought it . wich is good.

he was not impressed as not only did it NOT collapse a single warren , but none of the warrens were ferreted first , now im sure a number of animals would have been killed underground .

WERE they killed humanly????????????????

WERE THE FECK. also if some animals survived , like the rats and fox , what of the otheres that escaped the initial explosian , they may well work there way to the entrances and dig them selvs out.

and also im sure some would have survived , but been injured.

what a crap idea, muppets at there worst, nothing sporting about that

The Rodenator probably got its conception with the movie "Caddyshack " starring Bill Murray. When I first seen it appear in the North American market. I laughed and never took it seriously then; but, recently in Alberta , Canada it was used on a large agricultural job and the property owner did nearly $215K worth of damage was done to barns, sheds and vehicles, while another $40,000 was spent to fight the fire. The homeowner additionally got slapped with nearly a $40k bill from the local fire department. Not bad for a tool purchase that also set back the homeowner $2k. I can't wait to hear about someone using this product around underground gas lines. NOT!

I agree, it has no place in our industry and personally in a comedy it was fine but out here in the real world of nuisance control it has no place in our industry.

For more on this fire, the Rodentator , several discussions about it and a cute Tiger Woods "faux caddyshack" commercial

After all that DEFRA and Natural England have said about these things, it simply beggers belief that people are still wandering around with them while others even turn up to take a look!

They're already, effectively, illegal to use. Any minute now they'll pass a law banning their posession. What's the bloody point?

As Tomo has shown us; They Don't Work. Period. But, further to that, the guy 'Demonstrating' it was blatently breaking laws, in front of a crew of invited witnesses and then inciting them to adopt his example? One 'Mole' and there'll be a massacre.

I don't think there's ever been a better scenario when we pesters should adopt our own, time honoured approach of Walking Away.

I was under the impression that they had to be used inconjuction with ferrets to make shure that speices such as little owls rabbits etc had been bolted before the rodenator was used and only used to collapse the burrow, am I misinformed ?

 Unless your ferrets can bolt Great Crested Newts? Probably.

Do you think farmers will pay folk to use them on big burrow /problems area whats the going rate for a day with a Rodantor .And most amateurs need the bag of rabbits at the end of the day to help with costs etc

Farmers are doing it themselves and even renting out to neighbouring farms, no control over this????????????? I emailed several contractors pointing out the danger of un trained use and the damage they could be doing which is going unseen plus the report from top guys about habitat destruction for other species. They did not give a toss, one said he was sure they was no mis use???????????? All they care about is sales, and when the machine is banned they will have made thier money and disappeared after doing untold damage.

Write to your local MP now tell them what you feel about these machines, lets get something done about them.
