jaws66 0
Got woke up this at 5.30 to the sound of our black lab attacking my jack russell . This is not the first time this has happened . When we are out walking them we have to make sure that he stays near as he will go for any other dog that has its nuts he dosent go for bitches . We have had both dogs from pups and are the same age they are both 3 years old . I dont want to see him go as he is a good worker but we DONT want any vet bills . Quote Link to post

v-max 2
Andrea has kind of hit the nail on the head i had my dog ruined by a bully dog & a dog of this nature is ok if you can really keep on top of it. Bit of advice but you should never kennel/keep a lab & terrier together im surprized you still have the JR & its not been killed even if you got them together. Seen the day you would need a shovel to clean up a terrier in a kennel i keep all my dogs seperate but can put some together but i kinda know these dogs & what gets on. Quote Link to post

As you know, it takes years to train a gundog and, (should it be attacked by an aggressive dog such as yours), it only takes a few minutes to ruin a good gundog. I believe labs are friendly by nature; aggression is usually down to a lack of socialisation or, he’s trying to compete for the alpha role. It might be worth neutering him. No you are right . He is only worked on our local shoot and as long as he is working he is fine . As for the alpha role he has that as the russell just sits back and lets him get on with it . He did as a pup get set about by 2 dogs and I think that has somthing thank you for your advice Quote Link to post

Even on local informal shoots, years have still gone into the training of those dogs. Bare in mind, aggression is generally unpredictable. If this is down to him being attacked as a pup then his aggression may well be down to fear. I would recommend you getting professional advice from a trainer experienced in fear aggression. He needs to be introduced to other dogs by a professional trainer in a controlled area. 9 out of 10 fear aggressions can be dispelled or controlled but it really depends on how soon you get him help, the longer it takes the more his behaviour becomes ingrained. Remember...An aggressive dog, is not a happy dog. An unhappy dog makes an unhappy owner. good luck Thank you for your addvice . My partner will be ringing our vets and speek to them today about him thanks again Quote Link to post
