david2363 42
not knocking the dog but saw him run a whitwood in invertation raceand dogs got that far in front of him he stopped wasnt 100 per cent to me just a chaser not the same level as bob who could lead and win from the front Ballyregan Bob was a different type of dog for a different distance altogether. Bob was awesome in his day - I'd love to erase 20 years and see him matched with Westmead Hawk. But Samba, your missing the point, Scurlogue Champ wasn't called "the peoples champ"for nothing. Was he a canine freak? or did he somehow plan it in his mind to race that way? - We will never know. The Champ and Bob did have a one off race - shown live on the BBC AT TEATIME it was so popular. Scurlogue Champ pulled up lame after 2 bends, and Bob won. BUT... Ballyregan Bobs trainer wouldn't let his dog near Scurlogue on a 6 - 8 bend race. http://www.thedogs.co.uk/index.php?m=aid&id=70 Edited April 16, 2008 by david2363 Quote Link to post
Glen Loth 1
Do you mean the breed? "Thats the sort would suit me, pure early speed!!" They are racing greyhounds mate. Gaz We are pretty thick down here, but strangely enough I had worked out they were greys!!! For hunting, I prefer early speed, and that dog had stamina as well, not a long way third. In racing the dogs running on give an "illusion" of speed, its actually the leaders slowing. The dog that led that race would have reached a higher speed kph than the winner did, cheers Quote Link to post

He was that far behind he stopped chasing. Quote Link to post

sandymere 8,263
As Glen says it's not the the stayer speeding up it's the others slowing down that gives a false impression that the winner has saved something for the end of the race. It's the tortoise and the hare. Raced a few some years ago and always peferred stayers as as long as they are in the race thay have a chance were as once an early paced dog is led it's over.
