a dig on suprising ground

Recommended Posts

went over to the keeper next door but one to us today, we had put off checking the dens due to long lasting snow on the hill.. checked a few but nothing at home, he then took me to a two holer out on a open piece of rashes, grass and heather, it looked a real good place to find the vixen, but the closer we got to it the worse the ground got, several decent springs were active out higher up the hill, it had about 300 yards to spread out before it hit the are of the holes, having cows there all winter didnt help either.. im sure you get the picture... fecking wet and shitty

any way on getting to the holes i saw there was a small bank that looked dry, the keeper had a quick look and said "rabbits" i thought not even rabbits would be stupid enough to enhabit this type of hole..( what the feck would i know) but showing willing i dropped to my knees and :icon_eek: ( not that you dirty gets ) had a look.. the main hole nothing, but the little top hole was covered and i mean covered in fleck ( fox fur ) rabbits my arse....

switched on the collar , loaded up, and dropped the bitch in ( as ragamup says she is a doggy bitch ) she put her nose to the hole and flew in, well the first 10 inch or so, until she had to have a quick scrape to get around a stone :whistling: we got the first mark at 0.6, sweet, left her for a while as i didnt think she was not close to her quarry, i could here her digging on... after 10 mins she moved on and we got another mark at 1.6 .. we heard a few bays here and there but nothing that sent my heart going.. 20 minute passed, by which point i had come to the conclusion it was just the cubs.. but down we went.. on breaking through i lifted the dog out and had a look  the tube was tiny, a got a two or three foot stick and put it up the pipe, and what i found felt softer than earth, i pulled the stick out and the very tip revealed there was a vixen up there... but it was under the burn :icon_eek:

10 minutes later we had our game, back filled, and sat and looked on to what was a strange place to dig a fox... im standing next to the hole we dug in one pictue, the other shows how close the pit was to the water.. and a fox was under that :icon_eek:

sorry its a little long winded

Cracking story, actually! I don't know what I'd do if I had to dig a hole and found myself scratching about beneath a burn. Shit myself, probably :whistling:

And I too hate cows. Those bloody things make this land impassable for an extra four months of the year too, because of the bloody ankle swallowing mud they create
