Has anyone heard of this?

A riend of mine has just had a litter of black pups, he has promised me one so i went down to have a look and one of them had an extra dew claw on its back feat. Have any of you lads or lasses heard of anything like that?

you get them every now and again, isnt your mate cutting the dew claws of his pups.

Dont think he is chap, all of his dogs have still got their dew claws still on. Ideal its nothing worth worring about then.

Seen it quite a few times. A mate of mine has a terrier with two dew claws on each back leg that face opposite directions, looks like a magpies foot stuck to his leg.

My oldest terrier has dew claws on all four legs, all i did was keep cutting them short, and each time they grow a bit cut again, in the end theres hardly any nail left and its never been a problem.

i've had two terriers with dew claws on all 4 feet and my mate has 1 with an extra 1 to,if they not being removed keep an eye on the back ones as they dnt seem to wear down,u'll have to clip them urself.

nope! the litter of pups my black bitch had just had dew claws on the front legs none on the back

I have a dog who always threw one pup with rear dew claws, and his pups when bred later (ones without the rears) also threw them. But it is pretty unusual all the same

Many breeds, including Great Pyrenees, and Cardigan Welsh Corgis, as examples, have extra dewclaws, including rear leg dewclaws but not seen any on a terrier myself. Are there any more pups available Scotty? I might be looking for one

My sort of line of Russell types always throw at least one pup with hind dew claws: take them off: the hind ones often seem to grow out sideways more than the front ones and can get snagged if they work cover a lot.

mine that had the rears were from a Russell I'd brought over from Wales
