Just wondering what products people recommend for cuts and abrasions caused by rat bites/brambles/thorns. After a session out my terriers always come home shredded to pieces especially around the face, ears and front legs. I usually just bathe them in a very diluted disinfectant but thought there might be something better out there for helping the skin to heal better?

Cheers

i wash with hibiscrub first and then saltwater if it needs a follow up. anything bad or that could go bad i put on abit of teatree oil and propolis on it.

Maty j, I have actually been looking at HIbiscrub but it seems quite expensive, worked out at about £7 for 500ml, is that roughly what you payin for it?

its good stuff for the price, all i would use for minor are salt water after disinfectant, but if you can get your hands on nu stock get some, does a number of diff things including mange probably the best multi purpose.

Hi, everyone, Hibiscrub is the handwash you find by every sink in a hospital. It is dirt cheap!! Buy it from a vet and it goes through the roof. Find a cleaning supplier wholesaler and they will stock it in 5 litre tubs. My wife works in a hospital and uses it every five minutes. Ask a friend who works there if they can purchase some for you from their manager.

i do the hibiscrub saltwater thing. Aloe Vera is bloody good for healing stuff fast. Buy a plant, treat it badly (I do all my plants!) Slice off leaf, split down the "seam" of it and squeeze out the juice. It's amazing. I've opened the leaf right out and bandaged it onto wounds - try it, it's incredible. Also, you buy one plant and there's your supply sorted. They take minimal care. Sounds a bit hippy-ish I know, but it works! B)

YES ME ALSO,IT IS AMAZING.

Now I'm the complet opposite of any hippy trippy type munbo jumbo, recon if saline or even sterile water don't heal it then it's infected beyond the normal topical sprays etc but if you want to top cover a wound then honey is sterile so can act as a barrier to new infection, good old british is as effective as any high priced stuff, if it's heals with hibby scrub then probaly would have healed with saline. At the end of the day the dog does the healing we do the cleaning out the muck to give it a clear run. If the dog can't fight the infection then it'll need antibiotics.
