ST111 0
Hello, I'm going to Africa for the first time, and i'm planning to buy a 30.06 and later on a 470 for the more heavy stuff, what gun would you choose ? I was looking at the Krieghoff new semprio 30.06 and their classic bif five 470NE.. but i can imagine some people have other advice, thanks Quote Link to post
Shikar 0
Realistically you could choose from a myriad of decently made .30 rifles, and personal experience will always affect choice. I'd say a Sauer or Sako reliably produce accurate, nice quality rifles. One thing to note- if you're after plains game in Africa, make sure you're using the best bullets you can find. (Think Partition/TSX/Trophy Bonded) This is probably more important than your choice of rifle. Quote Link to post
ST111 0
Thanks for your answer, can i find all .30 ammo in Africa ? (south-africa/zimbabwe?) Quote Link to post
SportingShooter 0
As a previous post said, you would want the best ammo possible in that sort of situation so wouldnt you prefer to take your own with you, a brand that you trust and your rifle shoots well? The problem i can see with buying ammo in the chosen country is you dont know what brands they have and the rifle may not like them which may put you in a sticky situation. I believe you are allowed to take 50 rounds of sporting ammunition with you when you fly but you will need to ask your airline what their regulations are. This should give you piece of mind that the bullet is going exactly where you are aiming as personally i wouldnt want to get entangled with a wounded kudu or something. Just my two penny worth. ss06 Quote Link to post
Shikar 0
Find out which of the premiums your rifle shoots well with and stick with them. You can typically take around 5 kg of ammunition with you when you fly which is plenty for even a two-weeker... Quote Link to post
Brummy 9
I've got a Sauer in 30-06 can't fault it. I shoot 180Gr Federals through it and I find it a very accurate combination. Quote Link to post
ST111 0
Brummy, what type of Sauer do you have ? thanks Quote Link to post
Cutaway 0
Is the .30-06 better than a .303 or as good as? Quote Link to post
