Ok i got a jill and a hob 2weeks ago. They were kept by some muppet who didnt have a clue (main reason i took them)Anyway they have been housed together for god knows how long.I need new stock so decided to breed them. The jill is well swollen however i dont know if she has been serviced by the old hob.She is still swollen and i work so i have not been around to witness a mating. They are still housed together and get on great. If she aint taken is it a good idea to put her with a young hob he is getting the snip but if if she aint pregnant i would give him the chance before he was fixed. The problem ther is i wouldnt be a 100%sure of the father.Any ideas lads?My 1st time breeding in a while

Did you take both ferrets off him? ie the "old hob" as you put it?

Check her neck first and make sure its not ripped to shreds, ide take her out and leave her for a week see if she has further signs of pregnancy. if not get some one with experience of breeding to dtermine if shes preg or not. if he / she says shes not then put her in with the hob

if preggy she will be wider at backend and if not the dog in with her will keep bringing her into season unless given snip :victory:

that second quote don't really make sense,

if he's given the snip, he can still get her preganant untill all the sperm is used that was in the tube, before the snip, but once he is firing blanks, he will bring her out of season, if left with an intact hob, the hob will get her preganant, she will then come out of season, the swelling will go down, she will look like a light bulb shape at back end

Thanks lads and cheers for the tip stubby;)

Im intending getting the younger hob the snip as for the old boy well dont think it really worth the while he is pretty old.I checked her neck not a mark on it.Think he that old he past it now haha!

I paired a jill up on the second week of last month, I always give a week for a successful mating, as although they may "mate" it's not a guarantee that it's taken, the swelling on my jill started going down about a week ago, and has now completely gone, she's the lightbulb shape, and you can tell just from picking up, that she's carrying a litter (support rear end when picking up) therfore I reckon a litter is due, first week of next month, give or take a day or two.

Two jills that are with snipped hobs, are already out of season, and a third jill thats in there, has just come into season, there is also a jill that belongs to a ferreter, that got brought round sat morn, for my snipped hobs to bring out of season, and she's been getting all his attention, and another jill from him, in with my intact hob
