Welsh National Anthem at the FA Final

Recommended Posts

Im just proud to be where I am mate, typical patriot i suppose, its why i think that a national anthem should be played when a national side plays no matter where it happens to be, we are two different countries after all. Its also why i agree that the English ought to have an anthem of their own to distinguish from God Save the Queen, which should be for the Whole of the UK when we play as one team. It doesnt bother me what the English anthem would be, we have ours and i can safely say the majority of Welsh people love it and stand by it.

Oh and for the record im not anti English, just against those who dislike Wales for no apparent reason.

Totally agree. It's about time the English stopped using the BRITISH national anthem, & got their own.

As this is the British National Anthem then, and you lot from Wales are part of "Great Britain and Northern Ireland", now i believe commonly reffered to as the United Kingdom (UK), you won't mind singing along then eh. :tongue2:

Then you have a kindered spirit in me my old coracle.

I have no axe to grind with the Welsh, i actually think your Anthem to be amongst the most stirring in the World. :victory: The fact that i picked out Rob Howley's( the greyhound) side singing,( which has been on my favourites for a lot of years now, should give you a clue).

However, i do not agree that it should be sung along side ours at the FA cup final, for reasons given. It is a club competition, not a national one. It is the FA not the FAW or SFA and as such, their rules apply.

Well, that is where we differ and neither of us are likely to change.

I think our anthem is so stirring and moving because it is loved and sung with a lot of passion by a lot of people. I get the feeling a lot of people in the UK feel GSTQ, is a little outdated and colonial but i still find it stirring, on the rare occasions i hear it played properly, e.g last night of the proms.

Ah yes,the Proms, just after Jerusalem, now that must bring a tear to the eye of any passionate man. :drinks:

As for anthems being sung with passion, then look no further than the rank and file Englishmen who sing the Anthem at the start of both halves of an England Football game.

Or these Red Sea Pedestrians, apparently they're quite proud. ;)

I realise that the people in the stands are passionate becuase they are soaking up the atmosphere and they are regulars who enjoy giving their team encouragement, i was thinking of the people who are sitting at home watching it and those who dont watch it at all. I think quite a few are disheatened with it unfortunately.

I love the last night of the Proms, whenever i watch it, I think to myself "where else in the world do you see pomp and circumstance like this, with millions of people joining in, nowhere!". I end up singing to myself and i dont care what it sounds like.

Roll on September.

English, the language you speak and also,if you watch the clip, the proud Welshman, singing his National Anthem who has to stop and can be seen saying " I'm on telly" :whistling:

You feckers didn't even invent the English language, you nicked words from everyone else & strung them together! :tongue2:
