skycat 6,173
name=\'dickies_dogz\' post=\'498157\' date=\'Apr 17 2008, 09:15 PM\'] hi all i have just got apup from these kennels its was 8 months old when igot it the f*****g thing still wont come 2 me even though she has been here amonth and it wont stop barkin biggest waste off money do not bother with them What the hell do you expect? Unsocialised, uneducated: probably so tramatised at finding itself in an alien world with someone who obviously doesn\'t have the first idea of what the pup is going through! If you buy a pup from there it will never have been out of the kennel it was raised in: just imagine the fear and worry that pup is going through. I think Hancock is very wrong selling pups of that age to just anyone: even in good experienced hands some will never completely get over the lack of socialising so essential during the first months of a pup\'s life. IMO he should have any non sellers PTS once past the age of 10 weeks. I don\'t condone this either, but recently I have been hearing about more and more pups sold at a later stage, like 6 to 8 months and the trouble their new owners are having with them. Unfortunately there\'s a lot of young lads about who see the pup as an almost \'ready to start\' option, thinking they can just take it out and it will catch stuff. Far from it: those pups are like a 12 week old in a 9 month old body. They have to learn everything at an age where that learning is more difficult; the stuff they should have learned as a 3 month old pup doesn\'t come easily to an older unsocialised pup, and it is a proven fact that once the \'golden\' learning age has come and gone you\'ll never get a dog to accept some things: strange dogs being one of them: they\'ll either be shy or aggressive through fear. I feel really strongly about this, to the extent that I would strongly advise most people NOT to take on a Hancock pup if it is older than 8 -10 weeks, unless you can be absolutely sure that the dog is of such an outgoing temperament that you think it will cope and more to the point, if you have the experience in dogs to overcome the problems which will inevitably arise from taking on an unsocialised uneducated pup of Collie breeding: sensitive, intelligent and therefore more likely to be traumatised than a laid back type of animal. Of course there are always going to be the exceptional dogs, those who will overcome any amount of neglect (I mean this in terms of bonding, learning etc.) But how will most people be able to assess all this just by seeing a pup bouncing up and down in the run it has been in all its life: of course it should be confident and happy in that environment: its all it knows, and Hancock doesn\'t ill treat his dogs, this I know. Take that pup away from everything it has ever known and it will crumble into a mass of nerves and fear. It takes an exceptionally good trainer to get such a pup through all that, and as I said before, the fear of new things will probably stay with that dog all its life. Just imagine how little chance of becoming a \'whole\' dog that pup will have if the new owner has no understanding of what the dog is going through, let alone the skills to help the pup overcome these problems.
