Hunting and camping laws

Recommended Posts

Hi all, im new at this and i was wondering if there are certain laws in place that say you cannot hunt whilst camping? I cant seem to find a website anywhere that will gove me a basic outline of the laws. I have a spring powered air rifle and can online really get rabbits and birds. If some one could help that would be great thanks =]

You dont need a licence for an air gun unless it exceeds 12ftlbs,however you can only shoot on your own property or land where you have written permission, and although your unlikely to be jailed using a gun on land where you have no written permission is "trespass with a firearm" and carries very severe penalties.

Dependant on the land on which you intend to hunt you will require the land owners permission firstly to be there and secondly to hunt the specific quarry you intend to shoot . There are no specific laws governing camping and hunting as such but you cannot shoot deer with an air weapon in fact low powered air weapons of the type you mention are only suitable for small quarry.Further provided your low powered air weapon is no greater than 6ft lbs for pistols and 12ft lbs for rifles you do not need a licence. There are also age restrictions governing air weapons but if you are over 18 yrs most of these do not apply.

I emaild the Firearms Licensing Manager Surrey Police people and that is what they returned =]

Verry happy hunter :)
