I see were your coming from dev but don't totally agree. Not every terrier owner can get permission on foxes especially in this country!!!!. At the end of the day a terrier will work anything you wan

I think the question of the thread was "which terrier is best for bushing" not "which terrier is best for working"   totally agree with you keeps, i,ve only been on this site for a short time and ca

OK, DONT KNOW THAT MUCH ABOUT TERRIERS, AND THIS QUESTION HAS PROBABLY BEEN ASKED AT SOME POINT, SO SORRY PEOPLE. :icon_redface:

IM AFTER A TERRIER FOR BUSHING, I HAVE FRIENDS WHO USE JACK RUSSELS, AND SWEAR BY THEM. IVE SEEN THEM FLUSH FOX, RABBITS, DEER (MUNTYS) TO LURCHERS, BUT I WOULD LIKE YOUR VIEWS ON WHICH BREED OR X TO PICK.

Deffinately, im the same, but a lot of people like a dog to work closer in when walking with a lurcher or two. I have cockers, but last year I crossed my cocker spaniel dog with my patterdale bitch, and the pup is comming along very well indeed, and I hope to breed her with a good stud dog from my local beagle pack in a couple of years, if she turns out as good as I think she will.

The cross breds are way better than a straight spaniel, for me anyway. My terriers love bushing, but I prefer to keep them primarily for earthwork.

must quickly ad that if its a bunny for the pot your after then you either have to have a lurcher that retrieves to hand at the speed of light or settle for a minced one as the plummer is after all 1st and foremost a ratting dog and with their exceptional strength agility and jaw power for their size are never far behind said bunny, each eager to claim their share.this can also create problems if using young lurchers that are not 100% at retrieving as your lurcher will likely(depending on breading) leave the slaughter of bunny to the terriers and back off.i have seen young rabbits conpleatly disapiar down the throtes of a small pack on a couple of ocasions while out bushing with a mate.never the less, always a great day out and exciteing sport.however i would not disregard a springer.iv seen as a child my dads old one pick meny from thick brambles and clumps of reed and grass brought back to hand conpleatly unharmed by the soft mouth needed by a keepers dog aswel as exerlent nose.

im sorry but i dont call a rabbiting or ratting dog a working terrier

Why not? In my eyes if it does anything more hunting related than chasing a ball on the back garden with aunty veira then it is working. Sorry to all you 100% hardcore digging men purists that like the name 'working' to be kept only to your dogs kind of work but thats my opinion.
