Hi!

I joined to see how things are done over there, because it seems that even though the basics might be the same, many other things are done differently (thanks to stupid laws) and we all might learn something new from each others.

First of all, here in Finland, we do hunt also foxes and badgers (yes badgers are legal game over here.)

Then we have this raccoon dog which is the most common prey nowadays when small predators are concerned.

My dog is a 2½ years old smooth foxterrier, very hot tempered with fox and raccoon dog, but fortunately somewhat cautious when it comes to badger.

Here in Finland the most commonly used hunting dog is the finnish hound. If the hound is fast, fox usually "goes under" so mostly terriers (jagdterrier, smooth+wire foxterriers, working russels) and dachshunds are used to flush them out. Just that raccoon dogs and badgers hardly ever come out by them selves, so you just dig'em out as you do too. Patterdales are very new breed here, only 'bout a dozen of them here.

'Bout me. I am 34 years old it-pro, (also ret. peacekeeper (sgt.) Lebanon '99 and Kosovo '04) and I hunt almost everything from ducks to finnish moose (Alces Alces).

Here is a pic of me with my dog and her 1st raccoon dog -06

hello,do you eat them raccoons

Nope, I've heard that the japanese eat them  (fat little buggers, raccoons I mean :D )

If the fur is good, some take it off, but because of the low prices, it is just for the removal of non-domestic small predator. You can make a good "Davy Crockett" style hat out of them though.....

P.S. They stink, worse than fox and badger together

Unfortunately all the hunting forums here are in Finnish, but I'll give some links to those topics with pictures:

Pics about small predator hunt

Foxterriers and hunting

As you can imagine there are "cityfolks" also here in Finland who do not understand hunting at all, so you have to be quite careful selecting such pics that are "acceptable" for public display :whistling:
