Velocitors in .22rf

Recommended Posts

There are plenty of situations where a .22LR is not only very capable but also safer than a centrefire on foxes, nobody is suggesting you should be pointing one at charlie 200 yards or more away with a sub, but a a blanket statement that they are no good and should not be used is innapropriate.

I think a .243, on the whole, is f*****g stupid on a fox, it is MASSIVE overkill but I don't keep shouting at everyone telling them not to use it!!

If it works for you and the situation dictates it, (just like a .22LR) then it is right, so lets stop these lectures which frankly I struggle to understand anyway!

Show me a centrefire owner that says he has stopped everything he has ever shot at and I will show you a liar!!

I pretty much agree. Not going to run down another chaps choice either. Especially as I don't know the topography of his land, the local circumstances ,skill-levels and ranges involved. One point that I think is relevant is that because the price of .22 ammo is so reasonable it is easy to practice and experiment until one is quite closely in tune with the rifle .Old -fashioned field craft and calling skills can be as important with a .22 as the skill for long-range shots and an interest in ballistics is to the users of bigger calibres. Another point is that foxes are very vunerable to a well placed shot.Said it before ,if you can hit a bunny in the head you can do the same to a fox at the same range(remember, :whistling: don,t shoot at the end of their nose!) , a foxes' heart/lung biology is very delicate and they are soft skinned and lightly -boned.This brings us back to the bullet placement and keeping to one's range limitations .Please don't think ill of me because I choose to use a .22 on foxes because I know that for my purposes it is fine . Edited by comanche

As a 243 fox shooter I have to disagree :) Is it necessary? No, not really, but it gives the additional range of a 22-250 with the versatility of being able to shoot deer south of the border. My 200+ fox wasn't particularly messy, just had a sensibly sized exit hole, and my God they go straight down.

All that said, were it not for the deer rules, I wouldn't own one, I would have stuck with my 22-250.

Everything ive ever hit with a centrefire has either been dead there and then or died after the initial adrenalin has worn off .Call me a liar if you want mate but fact is fact .If you are still advocating the .22 to total strangers then i must question your own ethics because having been there and done most things with the rimmy i know what is and what is not exceptable . :icon_eek::icon_eek:

Come on Foxdropper, chill out, I have a lot of time for your comments and I am NOT advocating the .22 LR for Foxes, I am suggesting it has its place and it is innapropropriate to make a blanket statement saying it is wrong for foxes. Just like I say in the post above.

You are an exceptional shooter if you have killed everything you have ever shot with a centrefire, you are the only person I know who can claim that in over 35 years of shooting, my congratulations
