ferret_uk 4
I have a saluki/colie whippet and it is going to be introduduced to graft next season he is 13 month old seen a few and picked up a few day time bunnys but now think he is ready for more. What do you guys do to get your dog running the lamp i have 18month collie/bull greyhound doing everything so it wouldnt be a problem for him to run beside him. thanks ferretuk Quote Link to post
Irish Lurcher 1,013
I started mine on the lure with the aid of a home made lure, rabbit skin stuffed with straw. Once I had her retrieving to hand during the day, I would then start on the lamp training in the garden once darkness fell. She was already familiar with the lure as she retrieved it during the day, so it was a simple task of throwing the lure down the garden, then placing the lamp beam on the lure and command her to fetch, it worked a treat for me. Hope this helps. Quote Link to post
ferret_uk 4
I been doin a few bits and bobs with him but just didnt want to spoil it by starting him to early like most people do. He been out on the lamp but never been slipped just watched other dogs such as badger. Yeah your right mate a few people have told me badger picked it up easy and has always been a good dog which i cant deny he is a 100% grafter and does me proud. cheers ferretuk Quote Link to post

lurcherchavvy 3
a few squatters on lamp and a few ferreted rabbits has always worked for me.....but if the dog is going to do some grafting make sure hes fit because thats why some dogs play up because ther not in the right condition to be grafting....ATB for next season mate Quote Link to post
Guest smashygadge
if he has been watching the other dog shouldnt see a problem at that age if he catches them daytime.i took a 2 year old grey on and she picked it up within a matter of nights but obviously best if you no the surroundings mate off mine smashed his up on first night as wasnt brought on young enouth so i wouldnt say leaving them untill their older is better it can be worse threw daytime running they can see whats infront at night well can prove different.anyway all the best and good luck Quote Link to post
