in the eye off the law it is ilegall to excercise a dog on a public highway by any means off transport whether is a bike car or skate board but i wouldnt worry about it most coppers wouldnt even know that such a law excissed and the ones that do wouldt be bothed with the paper work involved so itll be a case off asking you to dismount getting round the corner and getting back to running your dog

hi mate,

put it this way, i have done this for 37 years, and have never been done for it, its the same as a lot of things mate, there is a time and place for everything, use common sense and you wont get into trouble or come to any harm, and it will do you and the dog good. dont go to fast or too far or you just run the dog to a skeleton, 3-5 miles at a steady (dog walking) pace 3 or 4 times a week is great for the dog and wont wear him down,

My lad does exactly this with one of our terriers (very dog agressive) he does about 4-5 miles a day on the bike with the dog on a lead next to him (holding the lead,not with the lead attached to the bike) Dog loves it,and is super fit.I't would be harder with a bigger dog,but if the dog is reasonably obedient i cant see a problem.You might get one or two "jobsworth" coppers pulling you up,but i think a judge would laugh it out of court if they tried to do you for walking the dog whilst riding a bike.

It's simpler to run with rather than bike with your dog for a number of reasons;

You'll not overdo the amount as your both develop together ie pace & distance.

You can get off road more so allow off lead running so better pace variance for the dog so fitter.

More intresting for both of you, cross country or parkes etc.

By next season your be able to do 6/7 miles cross country at a fair pace so the average farmer won't get near you lol.

Got to agree Nikey, they really do get used to it and enjoy the 'game'.

 

Used to run with my dogs a while back, 'ol half x bull really took to it and I was gettin a great work out too (ideal if you had to be on your toes at hot spots!).

After going to quieter places and him getting better I started running local....great! Came unstuck, whilst running down a duel carrageway, crossed a side road, bus stop on the right an a row of shops on the left, nearing the bus stop (its packed) a couple of 'hotties'...... 'looking good son, lookin good', I thinks as my head lifts and my stride improves..... My faithfull hound, on my right, has got his eye to the shops..... Moggy in the doorway, i'm clocking the talent as he takes a sharp left, right across me, arms nearley out of the socket as I do a 'tripple salco', landing hard and getting dragged toward the shops! Heads split, hands arms an knees ripped to bits, ain't lookin too cool now as I pick myself up an limp home! Made sure my dogs were bomb proof after this!!

I use a bike with my Lurchers but i have bought a couple of these they work fantastic. I hope the link works.

any body exercising there dog on concret reagular you will be doing your dog a favour if you get a bottle of fryas balsom from the chemest and rub it in the pads after exercise it realy helps harden up the pads i was showen this when i worked with a pack of fox hounds
