NEW SCOPE HELP!

HI IM JUST HOPING THAT SOMEONE CAN HELP, I HAVE JUST BOUGHT SOME TASCO ZOOM SCOPES, WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO SET THEN WHEN ZEROING, I KNOW HOW TO ZERO SCOPES I HAVE JUST NEVER DONE ZOOM SCOPES SO I AM NOT SURE WHAT SETTINGS TO HAVE THEM ON.

I HOPE SOMEONE CAN HELP

what is the scope mag mate ? ie'' 3x9x40, 3.9x50 ?

 

if it is leave it on about 5 or 6 mag and zero it in.

 

would help if you told us the mag of it and what rifle its going on and what zero you want to set it at

THAT WOULD HELP SORRY , ITS A 6-14 X 50 SCOPE GOING ON TO A AAS200. JUST HOPE SOMEONE CAN HELP, I WILL BE USING IT FOR PEST CONTROL MAINLY.

Not a bad range on that scope. 50mm will ensure good light, even up close on an evening shoot.

 

If you are shooting at 12ftlb, your max range is going to be 60 yards, head shots only. Once you have set the scope, 2 inches from your eye at rest, bench rest the gun and using 3 targets, 1 at 20 yards, 1 at 30-35 yards, and the other at 45-50 yards. Set the parallax view on the middle one. So that the reticule and the target are both in sharp focus, this is done at the scopes lowest setting of 6. Even at 50-60 yards, you won't be going above 8 on the scopes zoom. Zero the scope horizontally at the nearest target to within one inch of aim, then zero the scope at the middle target to be as accurate as you can be. Then re-zero at full distance to ensure that the scope is truly vertical to the centre of the barrel. It means basically that if you get a one inch group at 60 yards, then at 30-35, you will get close to 1 cm groupings.

 

If you find that you are hitting left up close, dead on at middle range and right at distance, then the scope needs a tweak to the right, equal to one quarter of a second per 1 inch off target at 60 yards.

 

It sounds complex, but once the vertical is set, hold over/under becomes second nature, especially if you have a multi dot reticule.

 

The focus setting btw, as I have suggested, will let you see the parallax blur indicating distance. Either the target or the reticule will blur up close, and the opposite applies far away.
