stubby 175
doing a search on here, will give you loads of explanations on locators, I think mk1 or mk3 are both good at the job, and I know ferreters who use both, so at the end of the day, price and availability are going to be what sells it to you, mk1 second hand hold there price, and can from £90 upwards mk3 brand new, can be purchased from as little as £127 Quote Link to post
woz 260
mk1 locator..one handed operation!! dont sound like a bloody space invader..collars are leather and dont fall off down the warren but are a little large and tangle the net as the ferret comes out...deben wont/cant repair them because one of the chips is no longer made.there accurate in an 8 inch square....people have been using them for over 15 years and are more traditional 50% of people love them the elderly and stuck in there ways..(especially hemp user's...) mk 2 absolute rubbish so they rushed the mk3 into production............................. mk3...sound like a space invader and have no place in the country side.....collars are made out of nylon webbing are broad and fall off down the warren with smal jills..need three hands to operate them....tranmitters are smaller tangle less but arnt water proof...the receaver comes in a bright orange and you couldnt loose it if you tried....have two settings..search which does it from 16 feet to 8 feet so your not walking up and down like a pillock..locate goes from 8 feet to an inch and have better pin pointing than the mk1...it has LED'S on the top to show depth of ferret..deban can repair them..they tend to be cheaper or the same price as a 15 year old used mk1....50% of people love them... this wealth of information has been compiled through people iv talked too,and read, and the bit about the elderly and hemp users i made up because id written more about the mk3 and wanted to even it up a bit PS IF ANYONE CAN DECIDE WHAT TO GO FOR PLEASE LET ME KNOW BECAUSE IV ADVERTISED FOR BOTH AND WHICH EVER I GET THE MOST OF THATS WHAT IM GOING FOR Quote Link to post
Scooby Falcons 0
I've ferreted for years and having used the old type locator and box with much success, I have to say that I'm not impressed with the new Mark 3 job, its like taking a kid out with a musical mobile phone. Why Deben couldn't just keep things simple and easy is beyond me. Why did they have to introduce a god damn ring tone to the locator when a beep would do. All I want to do is find a ferret, not listen to radio 2 at 4 in the morning !!!!!!!!!!!! Quote Link to post
stubby 175
as I have said, and done to my own, a couple of layers of electrical tape over the speaker, brings that annoying sound down Quote Link to post
