Snaring, trapping or hunting without permission

Recommended Posts

I have had quite a few people asking me for advice on the best methods to use for rabbits, pheasants, etc.

Now I am not an expert, never claimed to be. My father was a gamekeeper in Scotland, and I remember a lot of the stuff he used to do/tell me, but there are others on here who have been doing vermin control for a lifetime.

This post really is about people who want to know how to poach. It is inspired by the 'hardly the crime of century' and 'whose to know?' crap I get, and some of the posts I have seen.

I would freely give any advice that I can to anyone, if I can't help then I would recommend a name they contact on the forum, but not any more.

I can understand some people's reluctance to share their hard earned knowledge, I have been PM'd by the best and most knowledgable of people on these forums, their help and advice is not only good but deeply appreciated, and freely given without any solicitaion from me.

I just want to say that if anyone wants advice from me from now on, they will have to say that they have permission to hunt on the land they are talking about. People don't realise that we are being monitored at all times, the pics we post, the advice we give, et al. To give advice to anyone who openly admits they do not have permission to hunt, shoot, ferret, snare, etc, is in my opinion downright reckless.

It is tantamount to telling someone where they can buy a firearm illegally, it ruins it for me, and every other genuine hunter out there.

Rant over. Thanks to genuine, sod off to the rest.

Im all for being careful but seriousely some fellas are paranoid beyond health.

Advice on snaring is the same as telling someone where to illegally buy a firearm???

Thought you might feel that way Pip. Is this your post?

Just to add lads no call to get all paranoid im just looking advice on trapping rabits, even if i didn t have permission its hardly crime of the century

Yes it is. It may not be crime of the century, but you get caught and see how funny it is, then you explain all nice and friendly like to the nice bobby, 'but I got told how to do it on such and such a forum, and they said it was ok'...

Paranoid? Maybe.

I have my permissions, and I had to work a little to get them. I won't lose them, and I don't need vermin trapping to be outlawed same as foxhunting, just because of thoughtless dicks who don't care about the rest. No doubt a bit of salmon poaching is ok too huh? What about a few pheasants? Nobody will miss them.

The reason i replied is you made direct reference to my post,I have permission but advice was all i needed ,you think withholding info on how to trap will help things?Or maybe if we all stopped posting on hunting shooting then fellas without permission will stop.I seen no need to quote name and address of permission/landowner in order to prove my request genuine.

I m sure that would have stood up in court for anyone poaching,"it wasn t my fault he told me how to do it"

I did nt ask for you to reply to my topic anyhow.

i think not, you are not going to kill anyone with a snare, and besides we have been indoctrinated over the last century with pure sh#te , from authors and field sport writers about setting snares with small nooses set low to the ground . armchair experts who could write but definately could not snare and each author all copied each others lies, on this site people have been shown how to do it properly , and how to use snares humanely and effectively , also shown new breakaway snares that allows animals from cats upwards to escape if accidently caught they also totally eliminate woodland deer being foot snared . therefore the more people that can do it humanely and properly the less problems there will be for everybody, so we don,t have to listen to the supposed elite few anymore that were always trying to make out that they only new about the secrets of rabbit snaring , there are no secrets , its pure common sense and straight forward simplicity . also there are no magazine editors on here to protect their writers from red faces like they do when they write pure nonsense on certain subjects , in a lot of field sports magazines . on h. life when you muck up you just have to take the flak. anyway rant over . get to it.

All this crap from someone who posts photos of squirrels with their entrals hanging out. Then takes the moral upper hand on someone who asks advice to some who know how to snare or trap rabbits.

Ruins it for some you might say

Lol. The whole post, if you care to read it properly, is about hunting of any sort without permission. Something to hide pip?

I have no problem with entrails in or out. Perhaps I shall post a topic on how to bait a larson with a gutted rabbit, would that offend you?

The whole post was about how you where going to retain your vast amounts of advice in case someone got caught poaching it might ruin it for us all.I could nt care less what you post but you obviousely have a problem with what i post.I only asked for advice.Don t get too far up your own arse they re not all watching you.

Your dig was at me personnally. If you reread your posts.

1.I only asked for advice, didn t get it,got lots about permission etc.

2.If i was asked by someone about terriers or something i d do my best to help if i could. Its there decision what they do with em.

3.I can t believe that people out there won t advise on this,or maybe we re all brain washed into actually believing what we do is wrong. :bye:

It's not a dig at you personally.

I have been PM'd several times, probably because I ask a lot of questions to gain the knowledge I don't have. I have also read nearly every post to try and ensure that I don't ask what has already been asked. But the problem is ...in my tiny mind only I guess..is that if advice is given to someone who does not have permission to hunt the land that they are on, it is almost becoming an accomplice. Ok. It might be just me, but that's my opinion.

I have nothing against sharing knowledge, and as Snareman has pointed out, the more people who do it properly, the less damage and suffering will be caused.

Good luck anyway, if I had any knowledge on trapping and snaring I'd be out doing it, not on here (as I am) still learning.

All the best

Just reading this post has made my :censored: blood boil. Unfortunateley my father wasnt a gamekeeper or land owner so i wasnt blessed with being brought up in any hunting or farming environment. I have knocked on that many doors to get rabbiting permssion and the answer is always the same 'NO'. I have wrote letters, wore shirt & tie, offered to do work in return and still I get the same answer 'NO'. With all the knock backs it still has'nt stopped me trying. Hunting is my passion and no one or nothing will stop me. Put yourself in my shoes, would you stop hunting if you lost all your permission? Sonehow I don't think so. You are quick to distance yourself and refuse to help people who are not so lucky to have hunting ground, even before the ban when i went out hunting i was breaking the law but i still attended the marches to show my support for the hunting community. It is a pity the support doesn't work both ways as the ban might not have been passed. Before long they will try to ban all forms of hunting and you will be screaming out for support, so to refuse people help with the same interests is beyond me. When i go hunting (poaching) i do not cause damage to any property or live stock i treat the land as if i do have permission, if I am caught and asked to leave i do so. I know there are some who do cause havoc and kill everthing that moves but to me thats not hunting (poaching) in my books it is people with no morals and no true passion for hunting. These people do not try to get permission and have no respect for anything............

Sorry if i sound like i am whinging but stuff like this pisses me off
