Rolfe 2
As a routine i always "weather" any new cages prior to using them for the first time. I have always done this in the past as this was how i was taught. Just wondered how many people bothered to do the same with their traps..........or if it made any noticable difference to the catch rate if they were untreated so to speak? The ones in the picture are destined for a new grey squirrel contract..........and i will be trying out a new baiting technique. Quote Link to post

richie 1
i dont bother weathering any of my traps, but i do wear my leather gloves for a few reasons. just incase a trap went off by mistake it softens the blow " not that its happened yet " & also not to leave any scent on them. heres a picture of a brand new mk4, shiny as you like. i think 9 times out of ten if their hungry enough theyll go for it.... well this one did anyway ! snareman 3
SQUIRRELS ARNT REALY TRAP SHY , SO I DONT BOTHER. spray paint your cage traps green, or brown as it is harder for prying eyes to see , same with the spring traps , especially when trapping mink , as a dyed trap does not have the high visible eye apeal , of a shiny spring trap or cage trap .
