Mine took jst over five weeks, i had the visit two and a half weeks after submitting, and had the cert in about three weeks time.

However, it depends on your police force and how busy they are with applications. I know West Mercia are in some cases upto 9months behind, so give your licensing dept and check on its progress.

when i renewed my fac i had a variation done at the same time it was 4 1/2 months before they came to see me and that was only because i complained. it was nearly 6 months before i had my cert. that was with thames valley, they seem to be having some substantial problems at the moment.

hi mike,

i applied for my fac/ posted it off on the 23rd feb; got the visit from a sergent on the 16th march and the fac arrived in the post on the 28th march(co terminus .22 & .223) Strathclyde police, west coast scotland. my mate who lives down the road got his visit about a month after posting. but then took a further 2 months until the sergent came and hand delivered his fac. he however was poorly advised to put down 5 different calibres .223/.22-250/.243/204ruger etc, but the sergent sorted all this out on his first visit and he went for .223 only.

i think it probably depends on how busy your local cops are? because they have to contact your refs and all the rest of it.

cheers

Hi Mike

A polite call to firearms department often helps. They can usually track your case to where you are at in the scheme of things and put your mind at rest. Earlier this year a changeover to a new nationwide computer system put a right spanner in the works.

I've had paper work sitting in the applications pile before when it was a just a variation. Staff sickness also comes into play, and I've never heard of an over staffed firearms dept for taking up the slack so to speak.
