benj2212 0
hi, i've decided to buy a deben tracer max as apparently they are the best lamps. i can get the max version for £ or the pro for £115. i'd like to spend as little as poss naturally. am i better getting the pro to tone down the light when maximum brightness not needed or can i get away with using filters and only buying the max version. also if anyone knows where i can get them cheaper in the midlands, suggestions would be great. The Deben Tracer Max is DEFINATELY NOT the best lamp you can get but it does offer a good beam and good value for money in my book. The version with the dimmer will give you longer battery life, longer lamp life and scare the quarry less at times, personally I would suggest the dimmer every time! Check around on the web for the best price, you will probably be able to do a "bit" better than that! Quote Link to post
benj2212 0
thanks deker. i'm a believer in what you pay is what you get, i'd read on the logun lamp thread that different coloured filters reduce the light accordingly so i wasnt sure whether the dimmer was nessesary. what would you recommend buying as you say the tracer pro isnt that good. The coloured filters do reduce the light but they are not a dimmer!! Hold on...I didn't say it "isn't that good", beam is fine, value for money is good, build quality is not that great! There are brighter units and there are better built units but they all cost a chunk more! For most people for most applications the Deben Tracer Mini and Max offer plenty! Quote Link to post
speedlamper 0
you can buy them direct from deben, you'd think they would be cheaper on there but no targetsports is 3 squid cheaper @ £109 for the pro, seen a few floating round ebay latley to Quote Link to post
benj2212 0
ok chaps, thanks for the help, off to the shops Quote Link to post
camgun 0
I bought a tracer max but just the light, got the batteries from ebay and the light, connection plus filter from Deben local stockist, didnt have to pay the postage then. Not a bad light gives out a good beam for my .17HMR and .22RIM not heavy the dimmers arent cheap but I might have to get one for the more lamp shy quarry on my permission. Quote Link to post
spud gun 16
i would go on ebay and have a look you some times get some good deals Quote Link to post
andy s410c 61
I use the Tracer Pro 12v & i,ve had no problems with it.The dimmer is very handy & i also have the coloured filter set but i mostly use the red filter. There is better built, brighter gun/handheld lamps out there but it,s what YOU want out of the lamp & how much £££ you want to spend.... trappsy 0
I use a Deben Tracer Atom, made the filters myself, serves all the purposes I need it for, we are talking air rifles here. Quote Link to post
Caravan Monster 323
I have a Deben Tracer Atom. It did have a dimmer switch, but it was so fiddly that I eventually replaced it with the standard switch. The dimmer knob always seemed to get turned down to nothing when carrying my gun. Maybe I'm just clumsy, but I'd stick with the standard Tracer Atom for an air rifle- the beam is plenty good enough. Quote Link to post

I would tend to agree that a dimmer is hardly worth bothering about with the Atom, the MAX is MUCH brighter and the dimmer is very useful on this! Atom is rated as a 100m beam Max is rated as a 400m beam Don't believe either of these ranges they are both exagerations...yes; I have used BOTH, and the Mini as well! Quote Link to post
LOGUNSOLO177 0
Iam sure the atom would be good enough for 30-40 Yrd shooting. Atleast I hope so as I am also looking to get one. Quote Link to post

That is about it's max range...forget the 100m stated, AND if you put a Red filter on it knock things down even more. BUT, the Atom is ok for close 12ft Air rifle (as is the Logan Lamp) but it is no good for scanning longer distances to find your quarry! How much does an Atom Pro cost £111... How much does a Max Pro cost £112 Around 4 times the beam distance !!!! Discuss!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Cheers Quote Link to post
