tonetone 0 Posted March 31, 2008 Report Share Posted March 31, 2008 great post today got my FAC with the .223 on it. so thinking of getting a CZ rifle and a schmidit and bender 8x56. going to try and kill corvids at around 200yds. seen in the mags the rifle for about £445 and the scope for £380. hungarian assembled. is this a decent scope?? what do you think of my rifle/scope combination? look out hoodies no more lambs for breakfast!! woz 260 Posted March 31, 2008 Report Share Posted March 31, 2008 i use a s/b 6x42 on my 223 and have no trouble doing 270 yards rabbits...thats a hungarian...i also use a 2.5-12x56 german s/b on my hmr and there is no difference in quality at all.both great scopes.....only possible criticism is that the cross hair may be a little thick....but you will soon get used to it....my mate has a 222 cz has been cleaned twice since 1991 and shoots brilliantly..with a little trigger work they make great rifles...... woz 260 Posted March 31, 2008 Report Share Posted March 31, 2008 i used to use factory 55g amo in my 223..zeroed at 100 yards i was getting 7 inch drop at 200 yards...95% of my shooting is at night....i didnt think the 6x42 was good enough for the job so i bought the 2.5-12x56 to replace the 6x42 on my 223 mainly because my mates with centre fires were using hi mag scopes......i changed my amo to home loaded 40g well stoked v max....now im 1inch high at 100 yards..3/4 inch high at 200yards and bang on at 280 yards....i work for myself so most days i take the 223 into the field and practise.iv got to know my rifle well and decided to leave the 6-42 on...i am happy to shoot out to 250 yards at night rested off the bonnet..250 yards is a bloody long way at night with a lamp.i dont care what anyone says!!!!.....i am happy with the 223 as it is...a little drawn out answer i know but i hope it helps......... dickyboy 1 Posted April 1, 2008 Report Share Posted April 1, 2008 i've got a 6x44 tasco on the 222 and its alright but its scratched to buggery and wasn't great at the first place but its low to the barrel so makes the trajectory that little flatter but worth it......your buying really good optics with an s+b so it won't make that much difference at night and none in the day. i've shot to 259yards with the tasco and i feel its that holding me back now..... I bought a s+b 6x42 for my 243 deer rifle with 30mm tube, thats what i'd recommend it does let more light in and is stronger with no gain of height! That would be ample to 400+ yards other than that i'd start to think of varible power but that quite big money S+B all the way though Quote Link to post

I had a 7x50 Meopta which I recently turned into a 22RF rifle :-) It was very good, but I stupidly got the IR model as I was guided by salesperson advice. Never again... I thought that the crosshairs would be too fine on the non-IR model, I was wrong, they would have been perfect. I've got a 4-16x50 Nikko on my 223 at the moment, not the same league I know, but the extra bit of magnification is lovely. How about a 10x40 Bushnell Elite 3200? They are far cheaper than the S&B and the glass is perfectly adequate for lamping use, as well as daylight. You'd notice the difference in low light but that's all. I'm off to the States on holiday before too long, I might well pick one up when I'm there Failing that, consider Meopta, I could only just about tell any difference in optics between that and the 8x56 S&B. The IR model of Meopta was more money than the S&B, but the 7x50 non IR was £250, and that's quite a difference. Edited April 3, 2008 by Mr_Logic Quote Link to post
