Deker texted saying let's go and shoot a deer (since he's my mentor we thought we'd get started). So off we toddled, complete with 223 and 243, and Deker's Tikka. Pitched up, saw a deer PDQ, and moments later my first deer fell over. 85gr hollow point did the trick very nicely. But I did feel it somewhat unfair to shoot her while she was having a pee Moving on, go to zero the 223 while we waited for people to disappear (didn't want to gralloch (sp?) it with people about, one of my neighbours doesn't like the noise and I didn't want an argument) and I discovered I forgot the target holder, and the staples. Bugger. So I found an alternative.... The road atlas from my missus' car... So I managed to draw a blue blob with a pen, but then it died so I resorted to shooting bits of the UK. initial zeroing on the blue blob, and then testing on Ireland (too big for effective use) and then Shetland Islands, and finishing up with blatting the Isle of Man. Pretty, nope, effective, not really, but it did the trick! Went off then to do the deer, and after that went for a mooch. One bunny rabbit at 100+ yards, I think the zero was OK. All told a very enjoyable afternoon, finally with some nice (T-shirt only while zeroing and gralloching) weather to boot. I do have a picture of the deer, but it's a fairly standard roe deer on its side, can post if people want, but otherwise I will leave on my phone... Quote Link to post

Last time there i got talking to a local and he said it was still legal to shoot a scotsman! some old law from donkeys years ago- something to do with sheep rustling!
