Firstly I have a Patterdale Dog 14months old that i'm hoping to start next season. he was not ready last season. Now here's the question he has a head like a brick a strong jaw and neck. The problem that I see is that he has a deep chest but not very wide. A digging mate of mine said that he will struggle at fox as the width of chest makes a lot of difference. Now I'm not arguing with him as I respect his experience (only being in the game a couple of years myself) You see I think that the neck, jaw , head combo that he has will compensate. He's spanable and probably longer in the leg than many of you would like and I'm hoping he'll come good. I also have a bitch and she's got a bit more chest but not the head or neck of the dog. My mate gave her to me to start me off. Now I realise that she is'nt the best (or he wouldn't have given her to me) but she will work and is very game. I'm just interested in your thoughts regarding the build of the dog. If I could only get this picture thing to work I'd bung on some snaps. Squirrel_Basher 17,100 Posted March 30, 2008 Report Share Posted March 30, 2008 In answer to the first qestion mate -The spanable issue is only a rule of thumb and one that is quoted too often .I have a pat that has a barrel chest but she always gets right up to her fox ,anywhere . The answer to your second question is never ,ever kennel more than 2 together as sooner or later 2 will gang up on one and make a real mess of the other or kill it .Take this as gospel mate . What I was getting at was that his chest just isn't very wide although deep. he makes me laugh as he has this great big nut on a good strong neck. When you look at him from the front (obviously his shoulders are wider than his neck) he looks like there's not a lot in it between his neck and shoulders. When I get this photo thing to work I'll show you him at 5 months and what he looks like now. anyway thanks again Quote Link to post

NO mate what its is i was just looking on internet and saw that picture and just put it up as a temp took a shine to it as 2 dogs are the spitting image of mine as a couple of lads on site could tell you. As for the temp situation i have all my pics on my computer but when i try to upload them it says they are too big any help on this would be great then i can get pics up to show you CHEERS Quote Link to post
