the dog isnt to young but maybe you are turning it in to a tug of war, Instead of grabbing whatever he has retrieved place thumb & a finger at each side of the back of his mouth, increasing the pressure until his mouth opens releasing the object [telling the dog to leave all the time you are applying pressure] as soon as he drops it lavish praise or a snack

or both.just make sure you dont apply to much pressure it should be uncomfortable rather than painful try it 2 or 3 times & leave it for a few hours then try it again pups are never to young to learn.hope this is of some use ATB Pritch

When the dog comes back to you heap praise on him, don't try to take the dummy just pat him and stroke him, fuss over him then after awhile take the dummy off him. If hhe turns his head away from your hand he ain't ready to give it up. Time will come when he'll do it instantly. Stick at it and you'll have a cracker.
