Deker took me out again this evening after foxes and the occasional bunny. I took the 243, Deker his rimfire.

Got loaded up and both of us were moaning about the wind, thinking we shouldn't be bothering. But, well, since we're here....

So we headed off to the first field, halfway we felt rain, then it came out of nowhere, p1ssing down and driving wind as well. We took shelter for a while behind a barn, and gave the rain a while to stop. It didn't.

I got bored and headed off to see if I could spot a fox, in preparation for heading home. Amazingly, I did spot a fox. At least I thought it was, couldn't really see for the rain and crap all over the scope lenses. in the rain and wind, I moved a bit closer to get a better look, still couldn't see. So this carried on, eventually I got to 25-35 yards away, and finally saw the accompanying ears and face.

Bang! Needless to say, that close it wasn't a hard shot, even in the mank of this evening.

is what happens when you shoot a 58gr 243 bullet that close. It wasn't any prettier in the flesh...

We carried on, saw a couple more foxes, as the weather has eased (typical really, just in time to retrieve the fox!). No more shootable ones. Deker had a 75 yard rabbit in the high wind with the rimfire (a very decent shot it has to be said) to go with some he shot before I got there (one of which was stolen by foxy when we went back later). I had a 140-yard rabbit off a fence post, and that was that.

Still very happy with the 243, seems to be doing the business for just about anything. Given the weather, it was a pretty good evening! Just need some calm to zero my new Howa .223 now... :)

Well..it started off as a sort of care in the community project :whistling::whistling: :whistling: :whistling::whistling: , taking Mr L out on a few bits of my land.

Looks like I've done a good job :notworthy::notworthy: , I usually put him on point to give him a chance, but it's getting to the stage where he is cleaning everything up :toast::toast: !

Last night I did indeed take him out to an area well known for the fox, and its turned out to be a filthy night weather wise, but you have seen the results!

Mr L has invested in a few new toys recently and the RWS in .243 looks and feels great (seems to shoot ok too :thumbs: !!) Got to admit I know very little about these, someone tell me where to look please, (websites, importers, etc) as I'm thinking about adding another tool to the cabinet!

:thumbs::thumbs:

Care in the community, hmmm... :hmm::) I am very grateful for the shooting though, it's utterly rejuvenated my interest in it all, much to the annoyance of the bank manager and other half :)

James - 223 is mainly for use on the range, so it's heavy barrel (though sadly not fast twist, but it's 200 yard so it's OK) and big stock and all that good stuff. I will use it on the occasional fox because it means I can also shoot rabbits for the pot, with 243 even a headshot is very messy.
