cattle dog x greyhound

Recommended Posts

phil lloyd bred sum of they cattle dog crosses.he ad that good bitch speckle, bred again and the whole trip of pups ad to be put down ,a women who breeds cattle dogs told me that and said it was a bad idea crossin a aussie cattle dog to a greyhound.i ad a kelpie/whippet/greyhound and imho these aussie cattle/sheep erdin specialists should be just that'specialists' and shouldn't be put into lurchers. they can be very aggressive and unbalanced as there is definately wild dingo in these breeds.it just seems to be the latest fashion in lurcher breedin,'if it ain't broke don't try to fix it'.

:no:  why just Aussie sheep herding types not to be used for lurchers?????!!!!.....lets not use border collies...after all they are herding specialists.................or bullX's they are fighting specialists.........lets not use them in a lurcher.........oh and don't use them bedlingtons as they are earth dog 'specialists'!!!!!!!!!!! feck me you'd just have the sight hound crosses then :blink:...............And as for the unbalanced comment.....feck me :rofl:.......have you EVER been out with one....I'm sure ALL them aussie shepherds would just love an UNBALANCED dog around :rofl:

Its a combination of the person who owns the dog, how he deals with its upbringing and the dogs natural breeding/temprement.... some dogs are born aggressive and no matter what will never change, just like dogs born quitters, you can't change them....

Don't have to justify myself to you mate... yes i did my research, if a dog doesn't suit then it doesn't suit... better it go somewhere it does. Still in contact with the guy who's got him now thanks... if thats ok???

aussi x greyhound in my oppinion is a good cross and if brought on by the right person you have the makings of a blloody good dog

i think you should justify yourself, esp to the inexperience people who were thinking about investing in this type of dog in the future , you cant just attack a breed of dog with half inuendo's, that is part of having these discussions

I own a bitch with cattle dog in her the gentleman i purchased the dog of has bred from first cross cattle dog grey`s before and have had problems with aggresion most of which have had to be put to sleep  Now my bitch hasn`t a great deal in her but i know for a fact in a different home she could of been a problem <_< I`m not saying i am a perfect dog owner but i don`t let a dog take the piss and push there luck with me or the rest i do believe in dogs establishing a pecking order but there`s only so much you can take when you kennel lurchers and terriers all in all the bitch is sound but her litter brother and sister arn`t quite the same in defence for her litter brother and sister they dont get out as much as my bitch so maybe this is why mine is more sound i dont know but i dont beleave a dog should be kept working hard and being pushed just to avoid agrevation :good:

this ain't a disscussion its a slaggin match was just givin an honest opinion.they weren't alf inuendo's it was from my experience of ownin a kelpie cross.i ain't justifyin myself to a s**t stirrer like yous shaun.just cos myself and charlie c don't agree with yous it starts into a slaggin match.if yous want to talk p.m me and will sort it out instead of gettin personal. :p

Got to agree with you over one thing Loki,..life is far too short to fall out over silly fecking dogs ;) We are all entitled to an opinion, but lets keep it real,no lies....

As for Cattle dogs,.and Kelpies,.well,.I do know a wee bit about the two different breeds....The Kelpie is the Oz specialist sheep herder. As a substitute Sire / Dam for the run of the mill Border Collie type lurcher it isn't a whole lot superior....

The Australian Cattle Dog is essentialy a one man dog, containing a questionable amount of wild dog Dingo,..in fact,.it is the only herding breed that has been selectivly bred to actually BITE its quarry,.ie; wild scrub cattle that will have a drover off his horse as soon as look at him !...Obviously,..such a potentialy dangerous critter can produce problems for lads that have no understanding of such things. The Kelpies are now fairly well established in the UK,..Many farmers and shepherds are giving them a try on their stock. The breed is better at working large mobs of sheep in an outback environment,.and quite frankly,.here in the UK,.we don't really need 'em.. The Border Collie and the various crossbreed Beardies and suchlike are quite adaquate for our farming needs.

I tried Kelpie blood in lurchers several decades ago,..they were ok....

I also bred Cattle Dog x Greyhound lurchers,... ;)

I experienced no problems with them,..in fact,.I liked them a lot...

Further infusions of Whippet/Grey blood produced a faster version,.but I didn't like them,..far too accident prone,..good catch dogs on ALL quarry,.but I lost the fabulous feet of the first cross edition. My favourite type was when I used a Collie x Greyhound over a Cattle Dog x Greyhound,..the result was just what I required in my woodland hunting...Sadly,.after many years this line is now 100% extinct....

The types of Cattle Dog that you might possibly refer to in yours and other's posts would have come from NON-WORKING show bred lines... Dogs that have never seen cattle or been tested by hard men in a far harder world...Any deficiencies in character or dodgy temperament will soon be dealt with,.perminantly. I'm sure as working dog men yourselves you will readily understand the importance of only ever breeding from the very best stock.

Its never a cast iron guarantee,.but feck it,.it sure 'up's the odds' :D

As for Phil Lloyd having to put down a litter of pups,.well,.the Scottish lady who told you this was the same gal that asked him if she should breed her own, tiny,.weedy useless KC registered Blue Heeler to a Greyhound,..

She was told to forget it. The gal also had an interest in the Sillyham Terrier revival, and was in cahoots with the dog breeder Plummer,...

Lloyd never put any of his Heelers down... :good:

Hopefully, this true account will bring talk of silly arse Cattle Dogs and the lurchers created from them to an end...Let sleeping dogs lie..... ;)

All the best to all genuine smoochers....and a prosperous New Year...

This post is amazing and one of the few on here recently that i make a point of checking up on. There are too many sensible posts to start making quotes, but lets be realistic here.......

1 : We all have varying tastes!

2 : We all think we're right! (I am)...joking!!!!

3 : Our dogs, whatever the breeding, are better cared for than most!

4 : We are allowed a difference of opinion!

5 : We can be wrong!

Finally : We are meant to be on the same team!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I speak to people on here that i have a complete difference of opinion with, but i still see them and talk to them. I've sat round someones house and listened to them calll each other worse than shit, but they're still mates, why have all this silliness about talk to me through PM and we'll sort it there? It's bollocks! You know it, i know it, everyone knows it and the worse thing about all of it.............

We never get to see it!!!!!!

P.S Did i mention earlier, all your dogs are shit and mine are the only lines worth breeding from!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :guitar::clapper: :11: :yahoo: :friends:
