masmiffy 82
Hi all. Was fishing on a local lake last weekend, bloody cold but hey ho! Got into some roach but they were in crap condition. Had patches of scales a gold colour marks like they had had encounters with pike grebe or cormorants, bit of fins missing and what looked like thin transparent worms on em! Any ideas. Had no camera at the time but if I get some in the same state this weeknd will post pics. Quote Link to post

runforyourlife 361
The Roach had lice on them.... They will have had no encounter with a predator to cause the signs you describe.. It is typical of a roach decease, it will cause them no discomfort(as it proved by catching them, and still feeding) and they will live on. As the weather changes and they become more active, and move off deeper waters, the symptoms could change all together, and completly disappear. Next time you get a good bag, bag them up for me, freeze them, and then post them, lol. Quote Link to post

AIRGUNNER 1
Bad condition scales and fins could be down spawning in gravel pits or stoney/sharp areas or even brambles. Quote Link to post

Sounds just like Spawning injuries, but look at the date, March??? Roach are April into may, unless there is a considerable difference, from northern waters, to where you were fishing? Black spot(the desease) on Roach causes them look transparant as well. Quote Link to post
