runforyourlife 361
Hi, My bullgreyhound is nearly 7mths old. He comes out every day with the other lurchers, unless we are having a serious hunt. Now i know it is said that bulls are not very good on rabbit(i have seen some excellent ones on rabbit) but its not just that. He has had fresh kills put in front of him(charlie) he has been 10ft of squirrels, rabbits etc, and turns away. He has sniffed at holding sets, and turned away. Basically he doesnt seem interested in chaseing or doing anything. Can anybody enlighten me on this, i know he is still young and dogs develope at different stages, am i being to hasty? p.s. His mum and dad are ruthless!! And are good in the day, as well as in the lamp. Quote Link to post
scotty3968 0
Hello mate mine was chasing anything he could at 4 or 5 month while out on walks and was showing serious interest at the same age as your dog (7 months) but i never started him until about 10 or 11 month slowly building his confidence up day and night But all dogs are different and different breeds develop quicker than others mines 16 month now and still a daft pup, i personally would hold on a bit longer and give him time but others would say different depending on if your using it for accasional sport or serious pest control..thats just my opinion mate im no expert good luck though scotty Quote Link to post

He is going to be a big dog. i know other bulls, and yes your right, i have a mate who has a 27" male, its a fecking animal, and was snapping fox in half at 6mths. In fatc there is no sport in it for that dog now when on fox, its just to easy. Quote Link to post

If he's bred right he'll start when he's matured enough. I've known dogs that wanted nothing to do with quarry when there's too many dogs running about. Quote Link to post
staffy-1 0
i was in the same situation as you mate with my bull pup, hes now 11 and a half month and i gave him a proper slip last weekend which resulted in his first catch (rabbit), don't worry he should pick up off other dogs when your out. Don't forget hes still a pup, let him be one Quote Link to post
top terrierman 90
alrite mate wouldnt worry about it the best bull x i have seen at work wouldnt even look at a fox at 9 mouths but when showed again at a year was a differnt dog.personally i dont expect much out of a lucher at 7 mouths just let him be a pup Quote Link to post
allenblue 1
alright mate, dont worry about your pup it will come on in its own time, i once had a half cross bull greyhound and i showed him a live fox that was in a snare and he just walked away, he even just stood there as we let the other dog finish it off, but by the time he was 10 month old he was killing them on his own. They mature in there own time Quote Link to post
lurcherchavvy 3
let your pup be a pup mate....still take it out with all the other lurchers and one day it will click.....some dogs are quicker than others at starting and running......some take that little bit longer....the pup is only 7 month old i would leave it for a while if i took it lamping or take it daytime i wouldnt slip until its a little bit older 12 months or so....some ferreted rabbits.....but still go out as normal with all the others and let it be a pup its got loads of time to progress and be a good dog mate Quote Link to post
dogs-n-natives 1,182
I basically agree with most of the comments made, and I hope the pup comes on for you. My half cross was totally the opposite to yours, and needed holding back. Good luck with that mate. Quote Link to post
