Im with you mate. Badgers are a feckin nuisance at times BUT its the PRINCIPLE that these people are building willy nilly, with no regard for the wildlife. It could to all intents and purposes be a golden eagles nest or whatever, the fact is that these people are building over a badgers sett that they know about. I would take it all the way if it was me.

Why have you changed your name mid-post??? (tina/kev/sky/ace/tug) you've been on and off this site a few times and keep changing your name WHY?? As for Ravenscraig it was a feckin waste land because of the heavy industry steel mills foundry etc: it would have taken the land years to recover (contamination of the soil by chemicals and foundry waste) it was a brown site (industrial) now its being turned into residential and commercial it was never a green belt site for hundreds of years. Ravenscraig steel mills used to be owned by the Craig family (John Craig & sons) before it came into public ownership/nationalised (British Steel) The family also owned small steel works in Ayrshire!! One of John Craigs son's still survives and owns land in renfrewshire and has a small estate where I've shot and hunted in the past and most recently before Christmas, The best thing to happen to Ravenscraig recently is the new development, its bringing jobs and money back into the area, Motherwell itself is a ghost town with high unemployment and no industry?? the land was useless for anything else,After decades of industrial use the land would have taken exceedingly more years to revert back to a natural habitat and environment

 

Whats more important?? jobs, housing better amenities in an industrial belt and the quality of life for the people living there?? or some feckin badgers being displaced

Your point saying Ravenscraig was'nt a wasteland was also silly and a lie!! as it was a demolished steel mill with cooling towers?? It is'nt the nice wee green area with the diverse habitat, flora and fauna you portrayed in your original post!! All the recent surveys say there's nothing worth keeping on it, There's no triple SI sites or rare or endangered species, The authorities develop existing former industrial works (Brown Sites) in order to prevent them developing more of the Greenbelt

Methinks you doth protest too much!!, mainly just for the reaction?? To canvass support for badgers on a hunting site no matter what their situation is, is just staggering especially when most Terrier men would like to see them back on the list and controlled legally

I dont want to be drawn into the petty arguements between you and kevin, Tom. I would like to know when the last time you walked throught the ravenscraig site and seen the wildlife there with your own eyes. I personally used to take my daughter walks through there so she could see wildlife in its natural habitat.

 

This is not so much as badgers but the fact that they are destroying natural habitat for hundreds of animals. There was an abundance of deer, fox, rabbit and badger there (sounds like a poachers dream place lol) but now there is nothing left. You think they would have left some of the site to nature and how it has become. There are other animals, butterflies and songbirds being displaced as well as buzzards. Now this may seem pointless to some of you but if we don't stand up and take care of our environment then there will be nothing left and these large developers get away with it again. Who knows they could be moving into your area and taking away habitat and hunting ground from around you.

 

I can see the argument from both sides as i am a Motherwell lass born and bred. I know this area has high unemployment and is seriously deprived and rundown since the big industries and employers around here shut eg ravenscraig and motherwell bridge Ltd. To be honest though this development wont make that much impact on motherwell itself. The houses being built are for ownership not council houses which is desperatley needed. There are jobs around but to be honest people dont want to work as there is more money to be made on the social. The reason i know this is you only need to walk through the high street and nearly every shop are advertising for staff. The abundance of polish that have taken jobs in the area simply proves to me that people around here cant be arsed working. This development will not attract major industries back to the area as imo they dont exist anymore. The only things being built are recreation, housing, shops and the college. I dont see where industry of old will be attracted to here. Yes the retail industry but thats it and they cant fill the jobs here nevermind in a bigger shopping complex.

The problem is that once you give total protection to an animal, it then increases in numbers beyond all reason and sense, and it wasn't as if badgers were in danger of extinction anyway, unlike the otter. Unfortunately the powers that be and the do gooders are unable to see or realise that sometimes a cull is necessary: and what did happen to the proposed badger cull on the grounds of them spreading TB? I've heard nothing about that recently.

 

Badger culling already goes on and has done for years,

we all turn a blind eye to a worthy animal being "GASSED" IN THEIR THOUSANDS" by the state

 

Would you like to elaborate and substantiate your claim mate. The gassing of any animal has been banned for a long time now, unless I mistaken.

 

If i`me wrong about the Gassing then i hold my hands up and stand corrected.

 

I do now that thousands are culled each year, "how do they cull them "

I'm not here!! to argue either on the development of Ravenscraig, Kevin!! only to respond to your thread and I am ashamed to say your right that I've never met you and I do dislke you!! thats because you made derogatory remarks re: my terrier club and its annual show as well as making personal insults about a club member you never met?? you also alleged you had been invited to dig with members of the club that was also untrue

Your present partner has decided to pm me on another site re: her feelings about this thread, Why I don't know maybe she's feeling protective of her man while in a vulnrable state (pregnant) I've no wish to upset you or little jacks with my responses as I know her personally, I sincerely wish her all the best with the forthcoming babies and I know she'll make a great mom!!

 

But I would respectfully ask if she wants to contact me!! about my posts or others comments on this site she does it here, like she has done in the past

 

If the issue was not about moving the badgers (see pm below) as little jacks says! why put up the post, was it just to invoke a reaction??

right i have had enough of you and kevin arguing anthing he post you need to come in like a smart arse you might know this and that but untill you walk through and see whats being done to ravens craig then dont jump in the point isnt them moving badger it the fact there trying to hide the fact that they are there the only reason you and him dont get on is bacause what happend on the chat room kevin respects everything he will not wlak past in see anything injred if you just got to know him then mabey you would find out what realy behind the screen a man who is going to be a father again to twins a man that respects and looks after and leave the countryside the way he finds it in kevin does not work our dogs to piggy as he doesnt see the point of putting our dogs down to a animal that just runs from a fight as i said he respects everything
