i use these

molecard.jpg

whilst driving round i always carry a few in the car, with small envelopes, cause if you just pop these through letterbox, occasionally they get either ignored or missplaced, but if theyre in an envelope the occupier opens to be nosey.

pop a few in shop windows and local pubs.....

mine seem to work for me. !!!!!!!!!!

Tomo, :icon_redface: , i am not that bad. Well if the guy is that keen who started this thread why not spend £3,500 on advertising each year the same as me, simple.

Wellyfish, the answer is put your money where your mouth is simple as that, i have been trading nearly 10 years now, every year we get the part time fly by nights trying to get in on the job, every year we see them fall by the way side.

The best form of advertising is WOM, It is free, but only comes from customers who feel they have got good value for money, so dont think about charging until you have built a good reputation for walking the walk. The reason i still choose to spend this rediculous amount on advertising each year is because i am chasing the contract work with a view to a long term plan. But if you want to get on, this is THE quick way.

Professional advertising the only way, building a reputation = WOM = the icing on the cake. Farmers, councils & potential customers will see through the cheap cards, flyers, inexperience, chancer, etc. If you have no public liabilty you should not be putting customers thier family, property and friends or stock at risk. And remember the tax man is one step behind you, you advertise any where, expect a call from them one day. Don't think for one minute they don't cruise in these forums, they do. And make sure your van, car is insured for business or you could be in serious trouble, if your working for a company and using thier van, car on the side well your running a risk of losing your licence, one small accident is all it takes, be professional in all matters.

I'm going to agree with MT's comments in another thread now....

Its one thing doing the odd mole job for a farmer in return for a bit of shooting, but if you are going to advertise for mole work, you will be taking food from the mouth of a hardworking professional, and that's not on.

If you are serious about a career in pest control that's a different matter. Have a read of some of the threads on here on that subject, learn the trade, and enjoy a career that is varied and rewarding.

If you just want to make money at the expense of someone else, you will get no help from me.

Harsh? Possibly, but I'm as fed up as the next man with wannabees coming on here (and a few other places) and thinking that pest control is an easy living, and its perfectly ok to start up with no training, no insurance, and no idea about the right way to do jobs let alone charge for them.

Anybody who does a bit of amateur pest control as a hobby, for pleasure or sport is fine by me, but leave it at that, OR get a proper career in pest control, DON'T think that there is some sort of halfway house whereby you can make a few easy quid at the expense of others who have worked hard to do things the right way.

Rant over, fire away.......................................

You are right about insurance and it definatly pays to ring around for prices there is a lot differance in the amount and you need to be sure it covers what you want it to, some of the insurance brokers seem to go blank when you talk to them about what want it to cover
