Guest tops
Went out this morning on some land that holds a good number of Rabbit, the weather was cold, a slight frost covering and a moderate wind. Although we were out till past midday we only took a half dozen rabbits, and they were hard come by. So I was wondering, why is it some days Rabbit will bolt and on other times they sit tight. The ground wasnt rock hard so foot steps were not an issue. I am interested to know what peoples theorys are. I have just bought the finder mark 3 any one got any tips on getting the most acurate marks with it cheers. Quote Link to post

Guest tops
Best to keep quiet and tsand back from the holes. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Cheers , I think with the wind being a bit stronger than usual it might have carried scent to ground more, and poss sound, although we didnt make any more noise than usual. Happy hunting. Quote Link to post
Guest diesel
iv heard off a few that.. rabbits dont like bolting in the wind.... but who knows.... Quote Link to post
pegandgun 52
All that "being quiet talk" is a load of shite.Ive ferreted for 27 years and shot over ferrets with shot guns for 15years.Ive sneaked up to burrows and put nets on and long nets around and the rabbits wouldnt bolt.On other days they bolted no problem. Ive also chassed rabbits into holes with terriers and lurchers.Walked all over the set,put a ferret in and bang, out the rabbits come like steam trains.Ive shot 1000s over the ferrets with 12 bores and the rabbits still bolt no problem. The only thing i can say is that hard frost and snow gave me the most problems when it came to rabbits bolting.and some places are bad for rabbits bolting??? No matter what the conditions are those rabbits know that theres something or someone above ground and most times they simply ignore it Quote Link to post
FOXHUNTER 5,021
I agree with pegandgun entirely. If they dont want to bolt they wont.I used to ferret a piece of ground and there was a certain sett that we always pushed 3 or 4 rabbits into, but they never bolted from it we always had to dig them. Nipper 0
All that "being quiet talk" is a load of shite. Don't hold back P&G... I agree with P&G and as most of us go with a mate or two, who wants to spend all day in silence? I tend to find that rabbits that have never been ferreted before bolt better than rabbits that have. Guest The Hob
If the rabbit bolts it bolts, if it stays a ground you dig. Either way you get the rabbit. Quote Link to post
