I have just applied a poltice to my dogs foot using magnesium paste ( this is what I was told to use ) how long do I leave it on for , by the way the dog had cut her pad and it nearly healed and then it had some small amount of puss come out hence why it is polticed.

Regards

Smokey.

hi, i have no direct experience of it, but this is the information i have

Apply liberal amounts of poultice to clean area and cover with moist brown paper, then wrap with plastic and bandage in place. Leave for 12 -2 4 hours and wash off with water. May be used daily.

hope that helps.

Ps, if there's pus in the pad, would it not be better to add a drop of tea tree oil ( diluted)????

Tea tree oil works well as a antiseptic

I could well be wrong... but I thought magnesium paste was only for use on unbroken skin, eg. an abcess that needed drawing to the surface... I had some for a :censored: blackthorn splinter I had. I was going to use it another time to draw some gravel out of a graze, but then read, "not for broken or raw skin" or something to that effect.

I'd probably recomend just bathing the pad with salty water, or tea tree like Andrea said. and leaving the air get to it.
