huntwithhounds 3
At the end of the day their isn't a bad gun out their really. It doesn't matter what other people think you want a gun that FITS you.Their are loads of attractive guns on the market but they need to suit you. How do you like your gun to shoot? flat or high? I like my guns to shoot flat (ie not seeing much of the barrel rib, once mounted only bead on the end of the gun visable), this suits my shooting style, were ever i point the gun it shoots. I love beretta's but they all shoot high with me (mounted i see all the barrel) so that would mean i would need to spend extra money to get the stock altered.I know quite a few clay shots who prefer the gun to shoot a little bit high, but not me. Ps i hope you don't think i am trying to teach you to suck eggs, but i don't know your level of knowledge. get out to a good gun shop a try as many guns a possible. good luck Quote Link to post

huntwithhounds 3
can you remember how your side by side used to shoot? you can learn to shoot any gun at the end of the day but its best to try and understand gun fitament to make your transition to your new gun as easy as possible. Bide your time and speak to different gun shops get them involved in the gun fitting (its their job), then stick with your gun and learn to shoot it!! practice makes perfect. It is surprising that the majority of shooters haven't a clue about gun fitting and end up changing their guns every couple of months and never really improving as a shooter, remember its the person that makes the difference not the gun.Look at some of the best snooker players in the world they are playing with the same cue they started out with, they could get the best wood in the world but they still choose to play with something they understand. good shooting Quote Link to post
Okrang 0
okrang, look athe avalon guns website. They do great guns at good prices mate. Well "Thanks a lot Wingshooter"!! Earlier this afternoon I followed his advice and now I'm a lot poorer than I was before I followed his advice!! Just ordered a new Beretta Silver Pigeon from Avalon Guns in Somerset - they had one left from last years stock at pre-price increase price so we were able to do a deal! I'm now skint but can't wait!! Thanks to all for your input - every opinion has been considered ( except for that prick of a troll who infested the thread earlier!!) Cheers, John. Quote Link to post
huntwithhounds 3
you will not go far wrong with a beretta john!!!! it'll last a life time good looking gun and will always keep a high resale value as well. Quote Link to post
Guest bigredbusa
wow okrang , long way to get a gun mate . you must be very trusting for them to send it to you , how are they sending it ( not royal mail i hope lol ) , hope it serves you well Quote Link to post

Yeah, it is a smart gun - most of the Italian ones are, but I think Beretta look best. However, no point having a handsome gun if it don't suit me or I can't "hit a chicken in the fridge with it" (saw that phrase in another thread on this forum and thought it was ace!!) so hopefully it will suit me!! Thing is - they were by far the best deal on the price and they were good to deal with, which means a lot these days. I think they use some sort of secure courier firm to transport the gun. I have paid by debit card, now have to send my certificate off tomorrow by recorded post to Avalon for them to endorse it with the details of the new gun. They then courier the gun to my nearest firearms dealer (1.5 miles away) who does the 'face-to-face' handover. Not sure if my certificate will be with my gun or posted separately - first time I have bought a gun by mail order since new regs came in (showing my age!). thanks, John. Quote Link to post
Okrang 0
They have habitits of picking the worst wood if they have a few of the same model in stock. If you don not like it you can always take/send it back.I doubt a berreta would not fill your expectations. AAaaaargh........don't prick my bubble!!!!!!!! I'm sure Beretta don't send out guns with dodgy woodwork!................they don't do they?!!!!!!!!!!! If they do, you will hear about it first on here!! In any case, I will post up some pics when the new gun arrives (if I can work out how to do it!) Cheers, John. I appreciate you’ve emptied your wallet mate but it might be a good idea to get Avalon to fit it for you, well worth a few quid more. Ooops just read your other post, sorry I'd not realised you've bought it via internet. Quote Link to post
Geoff.C 0
If it doesn't suit you John, just PM me and I will drive down and take it off your hands, and as I'm feeling generous I'll give you £450 for it too!!! Seriously you should be fine with it, I like the 686 range, and am looking into a new "black action" one next year. My mate has a 682 gold "E", which is visually beautiful, but I can't get on with it, it doesn't mount like a 686. Quote Link to post

That blew a big enough hole in my retirement fund, but what the hell!! I did try it out for size at my local dealer and think it will work out fine (hope so anyway!) but Somerset is way to far away to go for a fitting! If it can't be sorted locally I think I have purchased prudently enough to be able to sell it on locally without too much depreciation. Thanks, John. Quote Link to post
Guest bigredbusa
i havent been to that gunshop on base , but i have a few friends serving there before they get shipped to iraq , may have to pop over and have a look Quote Link to post

They are a stylish gun but not only that, they have a well tested pedigree of performance. I think the 686 range is by far the best 'bang for bucks' - they do make some stunning guns in other denominations but I want mine to earn it's keep! Cheers, John. Quote Link to post
