week old chicks

Recommended Posts

I am getting my first Harris hawk in May, I have been offered some week old chicks from a small free range rearing farm. Will they be ok to feed as part of a balanced e.g. doc quail ect. Is their any advantages or disadvantages of feeding them? Andy

if your just starting off i would stick to dead day olds and quail and rats from honeybrook or somewhere like that, too many things can go wrong for you with them chickens, parasites internal and external, thing is at the start is to keep it simple and everything should be ok.

Got to agree with you chaos, buy day old chicks from a good supplier. I wouldn't bother going to chicken farms and asking for the throw outs there could be to much wrong with them and have Coccidiosis,Blackhead or Hexamitiasis. I only know of 2 good suppliers and they are Honeybrook and Kiezebrink

thats what i mean't to say spar, from a hatchery you would only get the crap things that die.

please be careful........i lost 2 HH a few years back from a batch of chicks from an untested supplier. I would never take the risk again and only ever feed home killed food, home reared food (own quail) or honeybrook.
