sky 8
Got 4 lurchers 3 adults and a pup 8 mths old. They stay in kennel at night, but pup keeps barking in middle of the night and need to know how we can stop her apart from getting one of those collars. I probably didnt help at first by going out and letting her in when she started barking so not make a noise for the neighbours. Quote Link to post

Guest CharlieC
The teddy and ticking clock would be all very well for an 8 week old pup but this one is an 8 month old pup and its very cleverly learnt that if it waits til the dead of night and barks, it will get let into the nice warm house for the night Get yourself "one of those collars" mate and keep the remote on the bedside table - no more middle of the night barking Quote Link to post

The Ferret 0
Spray collars work really well, you can pick them up much cheeper on e-bay. Ahhhhhhhhh E-bay, it's the way forward! Quote Link to post

I think they work much better than the spray ones. These are perceived as the humane method, I would prefer my dog to get a sharp shock (levels are variable) than citrus sprayed into it's nostrils. As HBG said, got to be cruel to be kind, eight months is beyond a joke and wait till the neighbours have had enough and start complaining. JMHO Simoman Quote Link to post
RYESWAY 0
ive tried always [bANNED TEXT] clocks ,hot water bottels, some of the bedding they welp on,but a burst with a water gun on a young pup 99.9% does the trick .for a 5mths onwards a buckett of water right over them it might sound cruel but it works evey time they start yapping give it to them dont f*ck about give them the hole lot they will soon get the msg. this may sound harsh to some who read this but it does work you might have to do it 2-3 times then it will be sorted.wots worse a buckett of water a few times, or upset the hole street for a life time , because when one start's to complain they all will .this has been tried and tested and it works, not just by me but plenty on this site . the choice is yours [bANNED TEXT] hope this will help you out at the end of the day its [bANNED TEXT] suits you [bANNED TEXT] Quote Link to post
Simoman 110
I prefer the collar as I'm a lazy git and can't be arsed to walk down stairs. :11: Trouble is that sometimes the dog shuts up as you come down the stairs and then you're standing around with a bucket of water at 3am waiting for the dog to start again. The collar doesn't require you to leave you're bed or even wake up, you can pick them up for less than £60 and no wet bedding to dry next day. Dog doesn't associate negative reinforcement with you as there is no command attached, dog barks=shock, dog stops barking=no shock Quote Link to post
kiwi 4
i use the hose, only have to do it a few times but it works. i got a litter of boxer pups at the moment that are learning that barking and whinning at the puppy pen walls is not gonna get them out but a quick shower, and they're 7 weeks old :11: Quote Link to post
Guest CharlieC
Dont bother with the anti bark collars, spray or otherwise, Ive used all of them and they can be activated by other things than the dog barking. The training collars that use a remote control handset are the best solution, provided you use them properly and fairly. The main advantage of using one of these is that the dog only gets a shock or a warning tone when you decide, it wont get one from romping around with the other dogs whilst wearing the collar, sneezing, snoring or shaking its head etc. It also wont get a shock or sound warning if another dog barks in the kennel next to it as some of the collars which rely on an inbuilt microphone can do. I used to swear by the canicalm until I discovered training collars, I would say they are maybe the best of the rest as they can be set to different sensetivities, and they also have sound bleeps to warn the dog as well as the shock feature, but from the results of using various types and comparing them for humanity towards the dog as well as stopping barking effectively, these are the best I have used so far Quote Link to post
