We use only terrier that are not that sharp. A to agressive one will be lost within one season. Any terrier that is able to learn to move the badger without blind attack is a good one for hunting.

In the evening after :drink: there is always someone that knows someone who had a terrier that was able to kill a badger. I have never seen a dog killing a badger but I have seen a lot of Jagdterrier that tried to - the winner has always been the badger.

btw: badger hunting is legal in Austria

A friend in Germany is using JRT kennel Rushill (I think breeder of kennel Rushill is Martyn Hume, but I am sure you know that better than me).

He owns a dog that has Bull blood in it for sure ;) and this dog is used for Badger and works well. He works fox extremly hard but learned that a badger is something different and has to be worked differently.

If a 100% Bull terrier is able to work a badger is something I do not know, I have never seen one.

Do not think any terrier is the best, too broad a question to answer.Single dog kill a pig ?? .Couple of members on here might have heard the same as me .There will always be people who had mates with dogs that could .Ive never owned one not sure Id want one ..Poor little grub eating animals they are really cute at times :D

we dig badger here france dug to quiet a few over the years .best terrier i think is one that dont mix just stop

it from diging on till you get to it.my pat a bit to hard as he likes to get up close :wallbash: then its time of for him.

i dont think a terrier got no chance of killing a badger on its own other way round more like.

Pre-Ban any terrier that stayed was the best for the job :D Alot dogs that start off hard soften a bit and give tongue from dig to dig but you will always get those mute dogs that will never make a sound... Pre-Ban I knew off a mute dog that did over 6 hours not 1 bark  A freak of a dog that never ever barked, he took a serious trimming that day but when we broke through he was locked and Id say he would of done another 6 :D I have never seen or heard of a terrier that has killed a badger.... ;)

i have heard gary middleton claiming to people that when he used to dig badgers in the 80,s he had a dog that on more than one occasion killed badgers (for fun as he put it) i dont believe it.

Selling point for that dogs offspring for those who don t know betterIMO,the aim of the badger dog WAS never to kill it but hold it.The more i hear about that man the less i believe.

Having been involved in a few digs in my younger days (France & Ireland) i have seen what happens to overly hard dogs that get stuck in with a pig, you tend to bury them with the backfill.

I'm sure that someone will say that such a dog exists but iv'e never seen one, i have seen a bull terrier X staff that was the best draw dog iv'e ever seen but even he would would get a severe chopping in the process.

The whole idea was to hold the quarry in one place so that it could be dug to, not to try and kill it.

A single handed badger dog - same as a Newcastle Virgin :tongue2: :tongue2:
