I was out in my rover 400 yesterday and the thing just stoped while i was driveing about 30 mph. It felt as though i hit something then it wouldnt start at al. I parked it up for the night went back in the morning and all the oil had drained out of the engine and the water was low even though i filled it up the day before. Anyone know whats happend?

you could of either burst the oil cooler or the sump can you see any visible oil leak if has just stopped on you i would be suprised you havent blown the engine by running it dry of oil :wallbash:

I cant see any leak anywhere and it doesnt turn over. There was oil in it but its now on the road. This is depressing

Have a look underneath & check for holes in the sump or holes in the side of the block.

Rover 400 engine are K series if I remember right, notoriously carp.

When you say that the water is low - you mean anti freeze, don't you & not just water.

When Land Rover sold the Freelander initially it was sold with over 25 known faults on it, most of them being taken up by the K series engine.

Get your hands dirty & have a poke about.

when you try start it does it make any noises .. like can you here the starter moter spinning if not sounds to me like the engines seized ... k series engines are bag of shit . prone to head gaskes going . so that might of happened and the engines siezed

I always thought the 400 used either the Honda engine or Perkins diesel.

I'm afraid the engine in question will be beyond repair, as said before it's most likely an oil cooler pipe or turbo oil feed pipe that has let all the oil go. I'm very surprised you did not notice the oil light come on though tina/kev/sky/ace/tug

Well i put oil in to see if i could spot the leak as the oil was staying in the car but i put water in and it was pissing out but i couldnt spot where from but from the direction of the sump but abgove it if you know what i mean.

is it a petrol or diesel. the diesels are prone to leaking oil feed pipes corroding but worse on the newer ones. it certainly sounds like the sump or oil pipe has gone but might only leak under pressure. as for water the petrol engines are prone to head gasket failure and water pump leaking which is within the cambelt cover. sorry to say but even if the engine's not seized then it wont last long if its been run without oil. you should have had oil pressure light or low light come on.

Sounds like a core plug letting the water out, or could be a cracked block from the water in the block freezing, did you have plenty of antifreeze in?

Can't tell too much without looking but i'd say it probably well fecked.

Was well fecked when they stuck that badge that says rover on it anyway.:laugh:
